Is fairing any good? 2 Months ago
--

I have never had or even ridden a bike with fairing. I have ridden without a windshield and know it's great at low speeds in the summer for keeping cool, but not so good at speeds due to the wind and bugs. I ride now both bikes with windshield and lowers. But if I had the chance, would I want to get/put a fairing on any bike? I would be using it rarely in town but for day long rides and trips.

Those of you who have had both perhaps can give some comments on one way or the other. What you prefer.

I've had both but unfortunately from a comparison point of view not on the same bike. I had the Yamaha wide windshield and lower deflectors on my Roadstar and it was great. When buying my Stratoliner I assumed a fairing would be even better, but it's not. I have the Yamaha fairing, taller windshield, lower/leg fairings and wing deflectors. It's okay but not nirvana as I had hoped.

A fairing will make the steering a bit heavier unless it's frame mounted. I never road with only a windshield and never wanted to. I dont like the look of them. For me it's naked bars or a full fairing complete with tunes. I was happy with the wind protection but i did get buffeting over 80mph but there are things you can do to fix that. Taller shield and lower deflectors.

I done with and without a windshield. Always liked the windshield on the best. I finally installed a Tsukayu fairing and added a 6" Longrider Javelin Recurve windshield and couldn't be happier. I don't notice the extra weight on the front much compared to the windshield and the wind just goes over the top of my head. I can also heat my music better too. I now just bought a 2018 Indian Chieftain Limited and it has a fairing with an adjustable windshield. I am on planning to install a KlockWerks Flare windshield though as I feel it not only looks better but will function better also!

I exchanged my windshield for a Reckless Fairing and an 8 inch fastaire recurve shield. Looks great but needed to add lowers as well. BIG difference over Yamaha shield. Hands don’t take a beating from cold wind or bugs. Not much problem with buffeting or gas mileage. Decel is a little quicker. I wish I had done much earlier.

I rode with the windshield a few years then put a Reckless fairing. I liked it a lot. Right after a friend put a Wide Open fairing on his and I did like that one better. The quality is the same but the lay out was better, IMO. I really didn't notice the weight, protection was better and I liked the way it looked.
Tried to put a pic up but not happening.

I have the option to ride with either. Hands down the fairing is a better choice. I find the fairing to be much more stable at higher speeds than the windshield. Plus, I just like helping you guys spend your money
