I used a 4x6. Drill two 1/2" holes in it slightly wider than the shock (not the spring) so you can install two 1/2" steel rods. Slip the spring over the rods. Use a small hydraulic jack to push the end of the shock against the rods. You'll have to have the 4x6 on a slant so the jack hydraulics work.

I took it to local Yamaha shop (when we had one) they did it for a small charge.
I have the ability to do this kind of stuff but having seen a few of these launch themselves over the years I stay way.

Took mine to local O'Reilly and used their spring compressor for free
