spit and sputter 4 Months ago
So bike started ok go down the road in 4th at 50 mph like always 1 mile to gas station and just before the station the bike sputters and dies. Now I have a brainfart. Try to start bike and nothing thinking my battery is toast because my truck battery died yesterday. Call my wife to come get me and then my brain wakes up and I wasn't in neutral.Bike starts right up no problem rest of the day.
2007 midnight stock other than after market slip-ons. 38,000 miles never been in the carb, never needed to.Ais still on.A little hard starting first start of day once in a while not always then no matter how long I ride or stop it always starts up right away.So the question is why the sputter and it starting up right away after and running good? Ken

Been sitting a while? Damn corn laced gas separates pretty quick when it’s hot out.

Other then what JD mentioned, all I can think of, is you may have been real close to needing to switch to reserve? The guages are known to be suspect. It may have had less then usual. A little sloshing, may have allowed enough air in to let it die. If I'm below a quarter tank on my bikes, and do a cold start, it seems to run out surprisingly fast.
I'm not sure how the trike kit affects the whole "when do I switch to reserve" thing, but I know on my Roadie with the side car, adding the hack made a difference when mine needs to switch. Maybe a more heads up attitude? If I'm not on reserve when I get to about a quarter, then it'll let me know. Granted its pumpless, but I use to be able to run it right past the light and into the 180+ miles on the tank range, before needing to switch.

I ride every week, bike doesn't sit much more than that and I only needed 3 gal. of gas so had plenty in tank. Ken
