Many of us are running pipes and intakes, without a power commander. And, none of us seem to be running lean(and I've been running since 2008 that way). I don't think there's any reason to remove the pipes.

Give it a shot. Bikes run strong without it.

+1. Take it off, hook up the O2 sensors and try it. I'm not running lean at all. According to the plugs I me still actually be rich at idle. Nothing to complain about as I'm getting mileage in the 40s.

+2, take off the PC, hook up O2 sensors and ride. Took my PC-V off a couple months ago and loving it. My bike used to throw the O2 codes about once a month, would just clear them and keep on riding. By the way, I did have a dyno tuned map and still got the codes.

Thats what i was afarid of. Even when I had the stock pipes on it would every now and then give a little miss and pop, however the dealer never could figure it out. I think that it had alot to do with the AIS. I also am able to connect the 02 sensors back and it works just fine. so with that removed, new pipes, power commander, i thought that it would be golden. However, had i know what I know now i wouldnt have spent the money. I think that im going to take your advise, take it off, run it for a bit, see how it goes. I have the k&n, hard krome pipes that are stepped. If im on the intersate running 70-80 there are times that it will hesitate a bit, but then when i feed more fuel it will smooth out. Sometimes if I let it, it will pop and crack like crazy until i feed it more fuel. Im hoping that all this is due to the power commander. If not this will be my last yama and im moving over to a victory touring..

The flat spot you are talking about is definitely the PC.

+3 on removing the PC....

Listen to the converted, you probably introduced your own issues with the PC. Popping isn't the PC, it's the AIS. Take both off and go riding, brotha.

The Road Star is a solid bike, as long as you know who to trust for mod advice...

Yea I had already removed the AIS. After the popping didnt subside after the pci was put on there, I had to go find out for myself about the AIS. So after the removal of that i took it back to the dealer and they said, what did you do to fix that pop? I told them the AIS, then i asked them if they would recommend keeping this on because it was running lean. So i left it. But Im thinking that was a mistake.

You're going through the same process most did.

Dealers really must get a kick out of selling the PCs. Gets the bikes back in a few more times, I guess...

So I did it. I took off the pci. I cant believe that they charged me 4 hours labor to put that on, plus the part. It took all of 20 minutes to take it off, and I didnt have to completly remove the tank. I took it out for a test run and really couldnt tell much difference the way it ran. But I can tell you that as of right now that its running rich. Engine light is off. I will let you guys know for sure how it goes. Im also going to change the plugs when I take it in to the shop for the 12k service. thanks for all the help!!
