Powder coating 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
This one is for all you guys who do your own powder coating. What system do you guys use? I'm thinking of getting a kit so I can coat the parts on my bike that I want to have done. It doesn't look too difficult to do so I figured I'd save myself some money. Any ideas/suggestions on what kit to go with?

I have to admit I am interested in the answers to this one also. I'm assuming the big cost is in the oven ???

Sometimes you can find ovens pretty cheap on Craigslist.

Even the guys on the Eastwood videos recommend finding a decent used range with an oven on craigslist. Just need something that can go to 450* and maintain it steadily.

Thanks for the info on the ovens. I see guns from $80 to $200. For small parts, I would think any gun would be fine.
For those who know more about this, can all metals be powder coated? (Well, all on our bikes anyway.)

Not just metals, literally anything that can withstand 450 degrees for about 20 minutes can be powder coated.

Me and my son have been coating for years with a cheap little Eastwood gun and electric kitchen range that was given to me.

Between the responses here and on the FB page, plus the internet research I've been doing looks like the Eastwood dual voltage gun is the way to go.

The dual-voltage is nice to minimize the Faraday Cage Effect on hollow or sharply curved pieces.
Too strong of a voltage will actually prevent powder from getting into nooks & crannies.
