If you are gonna order a new brake line I would check with TimB1007. He has been very helpful with that kind of stuff.

Thank you for all the awesome replies, I will dig into it this week. On the side of the road I did check everything for tightness and I checked contact at the header, its close, draining the fluid sounds like the next step and replacing that rubber brake line at the same time.

New question; what's a good replacement for that rubber brake line? Tim? ya got one?

What year is your bike?

Don't over fill the MC like JEastonjr says. I ordered a stainless lime from Hellriser Customs and it took them 2 or 3 times to send me the correct one.

Maybe it shouldn't, but that makes me feel good about my service

IMHO Brake fluid over filled. When the fluid got warm it expanded. With only one place to go it pushed the pads against the rotor. Then when the fluid cooled you were able ride. The service manual calls to replace rear brake line every 4 years.

That was actually the very first thing I looked at but it was good. After checking things out I'm betting it's like JD described, when I get in there I bet it looks like the bottom picture he posted. The bike is a 99 so I figure like TimB said, that brake line is wasted as well. All easy fixes just poor maintenance on my part and the cold weather made it more obvious.
