When I lost the regulator the 2nd time in my SV, I started with a dead battery with almost no residual voltage. I activated, top charged, and installed the new one. Idle charging looked fine. Plugged my little 7 dollar volt meter into the lighter socket I run on my tank bag and took off down the road. 3 minutes later, upward of 19 volts output. Pulled in the clutch, dropped back to normal range at idle. Spin the motor up to 4K rpm
, back to 19 volts. Will boil out, burn through the mat, and short out an AGM.
