after 50+ years of riding , daily , im getting arthur itis in my clutch hand. i searched for hydraulics, to no avail, so i tried this :

CLUTCH LEVER EFFORT possible solution:

bolt and nut in bottom of cylinder head, there are hole there already.
drill hole in steel clip where clutch cable goes into motor(there is a stamped/embossed circle pressed on it for aim!!!!!)
stainless 5 or 6 inch x 3/8 sailing spring (need a good hardware store(i had one in my junk drawer)
piece of Stainless Steel spoke for attachment to hole u drilled. make a J on each end with torch and needlenose facing opposite each other

properly done, it wont rub on anything, length of bolt determines that

id say it cuts effort a bunch 30-50 % , but does not effect play at rest.

Yes but it's reducing the pressure of the actual clutch spring. Likely to cause slipping under load. Check in high gear and wide open throttle from about 2300 rpm and up.

Edit: after seeing your picture I take back my above comment. I thought you were adding a spring to help pull the clutch...

From the picture it appears you've basically reduced the clutch throw out by half. So same amount of lever pull but half the distance at the clutch. Only worry would be if it doesn't allow the clutch to disengage enough.

Here is what I used for my wife. I used a v-groove bearing and made some offset arms. I ordered a longer cable from Barnett and told them how much I want sticking out past the ferrule. It loops around the bearing and back to a stay I made on the ferrule arm.

The clutch is half the pressure to pull and my wife who is all of 5'2" can pull the clutch with ease.

Check out the “cleavver Lever” website. They don’t make them for the Roadstar, but you could copy the design. I had one on my V-Star 650 and it was great.

Actually my clutch cable is slack when I release the handle I guess the kind and the size and the length of the spring determines that so there is no tension on it until you pull the handle

When speaking about the free play check at the lever on the clutch housing. if it don't have free movement (about 1/16 - 1/8 inch) at the lever down on the clutch housing free play is non existent. If the lever is being pulled up tight you are riding against the throw out bearing and will destroy it in a very short time.

Yeah Dave I think you're right even though they're slackin the cable the spring still repositions the clutch arm that goes into the motor so you're probably right so maybe I'll try a different spring I'll set it up so it's totally loose both parts at rest experiment with difference Springs maybe one with a faster Spring rate
