Re:Announcement: RSC to close down soon. 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I think the $$ needed is less than the time and man-hours. The code base for the current RSC is such that there are numerous modifications to the normal code to allow it to function as we have it. This current version of the RSC is rather old and by nature needs more time to keep as secure as it can be. To move to a current and more secure code, require a BUNCH of man-hours (mainly Gram) to update through a minimum of 3 versions of code. Each one requiring hammering it to make it work within that code framework. What would be needed more that $$ is a code developer that could spend the massive manhours to shift the code from a "custom" format into a nearly stock base that would allow a team/committee to easily do updates and upgrades when needed. Otherwise, anyone that would take this site over would be in the exact same boat that Gram is in. Too many modifications to do updates as often as they come out.

Gonna miss this site. Although I haven't always had a Roadie while visiting here, I have always enjoyed the people here. Very helpful all the time. Didn't post much but learned a lot from the people here. Always said that I would never have a Facebook account, but am seriously considering one now.

On a lighter note, with this site closing, I will probably have more money in my wallet.
You guys know what I mean. And you know you are good at it!

Thank you to Gram and the moderators who gave so much of their time, talents and energy to keep this site going over the years. I have made a bunch of friends and learned so much from the Clinic.

Ive had a facebook account in the past and shut it down for various reasons about 4 years ago. Sometimes I use my wife's FB info to look at pictures posted of our granddaughter etc.

Guess I will be reactivating FB under some new fictitious name to keep up with the Road Star world.

Thank you to Gram for making RSC possible and the moderators. If I had known donations were needed to keep RSC going I would have donated since I joined in 2012. That said I definitely understand the need to let it all go. Nice chatting with ya all. The 2007 Road Star Silverado Midnight I owned until this year would not have been what it became without all of you folks. Yes, the wallet was lighter and the smile was much greater! Two wheels up! All the best in the future and your future endeavors/pursuits. Family is #1, way to go Gram!

PS. When is the shut down date for RSC?

Well all good things must end, eh? Great to get to know a lot of you - have made some great friends here. In fact most of my limited social circle revolves around this place as everything else pretty much retains to work or immediate family. Where other than RSC could so many of us met Phil??? Not ever been impressed with facebook, but may pop in once in a while to check it out. I know a lot of you have my contact info, any who do not and want it shoot me a text before the site goes down. Thank you Gram for all the years of hard work and sacrifice!

Best wishes to all!

I don't mean to throw more negative on with what is going on,
but Facebook will never be even close to this forum.

Although the positive is, we got to be a part of something that can't be beat.

Here we had the history to research in the articles, and get the knowledge as it evolved.

My best example is how the "just remove the pump" evolved in to clear set of instruction for setting the float, removing the screen, how to run the line, and the addition of the Grizzly valve.
The work on the Roadwing, 4 gauge wires, erbs PCV valve, etc.

PNP lights out of a trailer module, multiple RTB articles, (some were really only RT ) but you could look it all up, and threads ran for years as they were modified and improved.

And you knew after a short time who to trust. Post your air cleaner and exhaust and you had a TRUSTWORTHY set of guidelines for jetting in 3 minutes.

I look at Facebook and there are too many answers, right or wrong.
"What is the capacity of the tank on a 2007?" Even if the answer was right, there are 37 people that for some reason feel like they have to echo the same answer over and over.
(Jeesh, you don't even get a post count for it.

Not to mention the bad and wild answers that are thrown out on FB. You might as well be checking your muffler bearing for a backfire.

And, when everything is laid out right the first time by someone that knows what they are doing and takes the time to help,
the same questions is asked 17 times in the next two weeks by people that "remember reading it but cant' find it", or "don't have time to look now, but.."

I'm on a few other forums,
BUT THERE WILL NEVER BE ONE LIKE THE ROADSTAR CLINIC!

Thanks to all that made this my favorite place on the internet. Without the help of this forum and the many people on it I could have never kept all that extra money out of my accounts. Its been a blast and I will be lost for a while when its gone. I recently opened a facebook but am not very good at using it yet. If I figure out the best way to use facebook my account is in my name, Michael Durm. Email mdurm@comcast.net.

+1 MidwestMike,

As a relative newbie to the RSC I appreciate that information on this site is fairly well scrutinized, as though everyone collectively agrees this needs to be a place where information is accurate as possible. That's a priceless dynamic. I've experienced it myself when I've not stated my help well, and that is a good thing. That keeps people accountable doing their homework and shutting their pie hole at times.

On FB that's nearly impossible to achieve because the posts and comments are streaming through at such a fast pace and volume that you just get what you get like a cambodian potluck. Better one right answer in 6 hours here on the forum than 35 wrong answers in 10 minutes! And although there are some really knowledgeable people on the fb group, like davej and others, it's still a pot luck... emphasis on "luck".
