Who's side are you on? 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I was watching the Lake Havasu toy run video that's on a different post here. First thing I see is a guy getting on his bike from the right side. Now this goes against everything I was ever taught. I have done it, and it feels weird but that could just be me. In fact, the last time I dismounted I had to exit right 'cause I parked too close to the wall on the left. So I was just wondering....how many riders on the RSC go on/ off the right side all the time, and, if so, why?

That was me, FaPo, I am 6'5" and have no problem with mounting on the right, I just step right over. The video proves it....

I noticed that too. I am about 50/50, I get on/off which ever side I happen to be standing on or off depending on situation.

Typically because most V-twins have their pipes on the right you get off the left. But back in the day when most bikes had pipes on both sides and a center stand both sides got used. I do both when the bike is cold but when hot I stay away from getting off the right.

I didn't always do it this way, don't know if there is a right or wrong way, but I do both.
On or off either side. No biggie. Like Mark said, just step over. Stand up and step over.

Beside, not too many things in life feel as good as throwing a leg over (either side) sliding in, and pushing that magic button!!!!

Depends which knee is hurting that day. When I was growing up Dad kept a few horses on the farm they were used to us kids getting on and off on both sides. The R* doesn't care!

Mostly left side but I’m tall enough to step on the right side if I feel like it. More so now that my main bike doesn’t have smoking hot pipes on the right side.

Overwhelmingly left. This goes back many centuries in armed warfare from horseback. Most tack mounted heavy weaponry on the right side of the horse, and horsemen being also swordsmen, were taught to fight with the right hand bearing arms. The sword is carried on the left hip in cross draw as a secondary weapon to the lance, war hammer, mace, etc. so it’s handle is clear while wielding the heavier weapons. This carried over into the 18th century, where the sword was still carried in cross draw and the rifle was in scabbard facing butt forward on the right. Mounting the horse came naturally from the left as the sheathed sword did not have to clear the horse’s back. Notable exceptions were the Mongolians and some Persian armies who in contrast carried their swords in renegade across the back. Raiding parties traveled light and bore no heavy weapons and often rode bare back horses, so the rest did not come into play. This traditional approach carried on into the advent of the motorcycle in warfare, where carbines and sub guns can still be seen in right mounted scabbards for the same reasons. Over the years, this carried naturally into being taught to board from the left. It is also sound from a safety and physics perspective, and the center of mass of the bike is encountered and stabilized more readily from the kickstand side. Dad told me once when I got on from the right that John Wayne would not be impressed with that.
