Purge clean my bike brakes once a year, needed or not. Brake fluid is cheap, the task is easy, and fresh fluid will keep the lines and seals pliable and healthy. Friggin ester based fluid can draw moisture through stainless steel. Aircraft with phosphate ester based hydraulic fluid (the EVIL Skydrol 500 have their fluid changed out every 3 years, and many commercial operators require an annual sample hit the lab so they can monitor content. I hate the shit, and think they should all use Dawn dish liquid, since it has been proven to work! LOL.

So you're recommending Dawn to substitute for brake fluid ?

It just Dawned on me that JD has a great idea. With that change we can all say our ride is green and we save wildlife in an oil spill. Just drop some Dawn brake fluid and start washing the ducks! LOL JK
Changed the brake fluid on my Indian this past summer. Its a 2014 and needed it.

The HD recall is interesting. The fact that it is a recall is a surprise. HD usually discontinues the bad parts and only has a screaming eagle kit for you at the counter.....this is a new step for HD IMO

A few years back, a Southwest Airlines aircraft flew for 77 hours over the course of 13 days with liquid soap in the hydraulic system, inadverdently used because it was light purple in color, just like Slydrol 500B. The aircraft had zero operational anomalies while running on the liquid detergent.

How did it hold up to the high pressure and temps required by a hyd system?

Evil Skydrol 500 is also a great paint remover strips that paint right off.

works on skin pretty good too!.. but usually there's some Aeroshell mineral oil nearby to clean in off with

Gotta love mineral oil. My hands were painfully cracked up from working as a provisioning agent for Southwest airlines and having my hands in water and ice so much that they got pretty bad. I started working at Dynair and had my hands buried in oil from overhauling flap transmissions and in only about 3 weeks I had executive hands! Not sure my liver was better off for it tho.

Yeah but that's on the inside, so no one can see. Besides we don't shake hands with our liver so it's all good.

There were no discrepancies noted with the aircraft operation.

That's pretty remarkable jd. Wonder about soap's compressibility compared and its corrosiveness on a system over time since its made with water and its vulnerabiliy to microbes etc. Sure would be greener!
