Anyone ever have to resurface or reseal manifold 2 Years, 10 Months ago
I have done the manifold porting and resurfacing. Used Hylomar and everything has been working well. However had some issues on a ride over the weekend where the symptoms seemed like it may have been an air leak. I had already soldered the nipple so was wondering if others had ever had to remove and reseal the manifold? Is this something that should be done every couple of years or is it a do it and forget about it type of mod? Also, if you have had to remove it to reseal it...did you have to resurface it again?

Some have had to reseal it. I had issues with mine when I was using the stock orings so I made rubber composite gaskets and never looked back.

OK...thanks guys. I appreciate it and not looking forward to cleaning the Hylomar off if I do have to dive back into it.
I took off the carb and checked everything over. Seems to be working fine now but just started to wonder if the Hylomar was starting to fade or if the seal was lost. Obviously do not want to redo it unless I have to...but just wondering if others had issues in the past or if it is something I should plan on having to do every few years.
Was a big backfire through the carb that stalled the bike. Finally got it started and could not run it without choke. On decel would stall out and AFR showed it running very lean. Was good up to that point and wondered if the manifold had just lost its seal which caused all the issues....

I did hundreds of manifold replacements (seriously). I never used anything but the stock orings, and never had any issues.

Always resurfaced them to make them flat, and cleaned the orings in the kitchen sink with dish soap. I replaced orings that were stretched out and no longer fit nicely into the detent notches, or any that were nicked somehow.

Fyi. I never had to use Hylomar at all.

Some guys have never had an issue but a lot have. Mine were bad and had a air leak right out of the box and I had to try a reseal at 1100 miles.I did the resurface, then again with new orings, then with orings and holimar along with a new manifold then just said screw it and made gaskets. Never had another issue.

Quick question about leaky manifolds. Awhile back, someone suggested using a hose attached to a plumber's propane bottle and run the hose around the manifold joints to check for leaks instead of spraying starting fluid or something and making a big mess. I thought it was a good idea but haven't needed to do it yet. Has anyone tried this method of checking for leaks, and if so, how well did it work?

I used water in a spray bottle. No mess, and the water will plug leaks quickly. You will hear the rpms change if you plug anything with the water.

Don't know anything about using plumbers gas. It's interesting though.

Brake cleaner works too, and it evaporates quickly.
