OK, The spot I found in Spray sounds pretty decent, especially with the house rental (3 bedrooms 2 bath/$135 night) and also RV and tent space on site. The real issue is there is one store and cafe and they close @ 6pm sharp. There is also fuel there but likely just regular. It is suggested to bring your groceries from a larger town on the way in. You can see the River Bend motel here: http://riverbendmotel.com/

For the Sumpter ride: about 280 miles It's pretty remote from Ukiah to Sumpter.

Spray, east to Long Creek, North to Ukiah (90 miles) SE on NF-52/NFD-73 to Sumpter (65 miles). Sumpter Hwy 7 to Austin, 26 to John Day, Dayville, up Hwy 19 and return to Spray (126 miles).

Another Loop, 202 miles, Spray South on 19 through the John Day Fossil beds West on 26 to Mitchell (62 miles), up 207/19 through Fossil to Condon (63 miles), 206 to Ruggs Junction and down 207 and back to Spray (76 miles).

There are many places to visit and the scenery is pretty incredible.

There are other possibilities for lodging closer to or in John Day or nearby, including VRBO places, so there are other options.

Thoughts? Mike, I know you have ridden around this area a bit....

Jay, you and Mike did such a fantastic job mapping out this year’s rides, that I put all my faith in your judgement for next year. Party on Wayne!

Well then there is the option of making it a rolling Starfest. Meeting in a central location and riding to a destination, staying the night, riding to another destination, etc.

Heck, doesn't have to be Eastern Oregon even, since it will be pretty warm in July (mid 90's are common) Just threw it out since Mikey was over in that area this summer.

Discussion please!

I think I like the the rolling option. Homebase and bbq at MikeyC's was great. But you're limited to "loop" rides. However on a multi stop ride you're looking at different hotel rooms, camping, etc and packing up every day. But either way I'm sure it would be a great ride.

One of the companies I work for is talking about a company retreat in NorCal next summer. Maybe the dates will line up and I can write the whole thing off on my taxes.

Hey all =)

The rolling starfest sounds like fun. I am determined to do my best to make it this next year. Toby has been recovering well from his surgery, I still have pain and stiffness to deal with, but motorcycles fix everything.
I am not sure if I can afford multiple nights of 100$ + so perhaps we can join up with you guys for a day and camp out then on the following day's road, eventually peel off and head home.

We have been saving up for next summer's activities, but we are still catching up on the bills that built up from all of the hospital and followup stuff this last summer.

I will keep checking back to this thread to see what finally shakes out for our M&G. I LOVE Oregon by the way. ANY part of oregon lol
We have had fun camping on the coast and visiting seal rock... just throwing that out there

A rolling meet might limit some folks and be a hardship if they were camping due to having to break down and set up camp every day. It’s much easier to stay at one base camp where you can store food, drinks, etc. Sounds like there are plenty of ride options in east OR.

It's all pretty remote out that way, that's what makes it so nice. NO TRAFFIC I like the Spray idea, we will just have to stock up your 5th wheel and use it as a kitchen and meet spot, and if we are all staying in walking distance, everything in Spray is walking distance, then we can have some drinks at night. We will probably only have one day ride if we stay two nights. One day will be getting there, the next for a ride and the third for going home. But the in and out rides will be awesome too. If we rent the house you could probably leave the 5th wheel at home and there is a good store in John Day.

Hey! What are the official dates? I gotta get them marked off the calendar.

Re:2018 NW Starfest Planning Thread 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Well my thinking was I would head over on Wednesday to be able to pull in by late evening, allow Thursday to be our arrival day, Friday and Saturday for rides and go home Sunday or Monday depending on if anyone wanted to spend an extra day. I did think about riding over too but hard to carry very many supplies/groceries, etc.

I kind of want to go over to check the place out but its a 5hr drive one way...

I like the sound of that, and heck yeah! We will invite the Or and WA meet-ups. So, I guess we will just have to do an exploratory ride over to check things out. Over one day back the next and stay in Spray, although there may not be time for that now. It is sounding real good as is though. How much were rooms a night at the motel? You said the house was a 3 bedroom? That would be $45-$50 a night for 3 couples.
