Back in the saddle ... 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Well I have been storing our bikes at my son's place in town. Until the tree is gone and no longer an issue, I just feel safer with the bikes being in Daniel's garage. Daniel loves it because Toby lets him ride the stryker to work and school.
So while in town, for Dr appointments, the weather being nice and all, I got on my new girl and attempted to pick it up off the stand. I was successful! It was fairly easy, this bike is lighter then my roadstar was.

That was yesterday... Today, we are going for a family ride, and when toby had onwego out of the garage, I slipped into the saddle, took her off the stand and rode up and down the street a couple times =)
It was just a little ride, but it felt gooood =) The new bike is very comfy and easy to handle. getting used to her gear ratio and friction zone will take a bit, she isn't as smooth or forgiving as the roadstar was.

In medical news, the orthopedic Dr gave me a clean bill of health, in regards to my hands, and wrist. He said don't over stress it, I can do anything I am comfortable doing movement wise, keep the weight down to 1 lb to start with. Listen to my body... etc

Kidney Dr said CT scan confirmed the kidney is dead, and will likely atrophy away. She said that the kidney I have left will likely grow larger to compensate, have to keep blood pressure down, and watch my diet.

I still refuse to give up on my dream of riding, and touring the country. I think some of that tho, will be done with a cargo trailer for the bikes, behind a motorhome =)

anyway, little steps =)

Good to hear. I remember my first ride after my crash too. Full on cast on my left foot. Thankful for the heel-toe shifter during that time for sure

I only rode about 6 miles or so (and got rained on, lol)

It was just a little ride, I was just so tickled to get the bike off the stand yesterday, I couldn't resist seeing if I could still manage the controls for real =)

I will have Toby take me to Redwood acres fairgrounds, where we can use the parking lot for me to get used to my bike.

I see myself really riding by next spring =)

Errrr... excuse me. You nearly died in a major crash and suffered extreme trauma. While in recovery mode you hop on a bike and ride the doggone thing and can't wait to kick butt and take names on it. To me, that is super impressive and inspirational. I give you a 10 out of 10 in courage points!
