Progress report =) 6 Months, 1 Week ago
Well yesterday I had my surgery to remove the 5 pins from my right wrist. The Doctor also had decided during my pre-op appointment that my index finger on my left hand needed to be fused, the tip would not heal straight due to the ligaments being too torn to connect.

So the pin removal goes fine, and he moves on to the fusing, while putting the screw into the finger tip that will hold the tip to the next joint and fuse it, the screw head breaks off. The screw is not fully placed, but can't be removed. So he wound up having to shave bone fragments from the second section of my finger, implant the shavings between the tip and the joint it was being fused to, then shove a PIN in there somehow, to keep stuff rigid until the bone 'grafts' have a chance to heal in there and complete the fusion.

He had to jab my hand twice in the nerve to deaden the first 3 fingers, because what he was doing hurt so badly that it was bringing me out of sedation.
Well that nerve block is wearing off. OMFG OW OW OW!

pardon my french but F*** this hurts. Thank goodness my next followup is in 10 days, stitches come out, hopefully this god forsaken pin comes out... argh. Of ALL the injuries, this is hurting the worst because they aren't giving me any of the GOOD pain killers, and the narcotics don't touch nerve pain anyway.

I went from doing most stuff for myself, back to being pretty helpless.

On the bright side, my right hand can now squeeze the brake lever on my new bike and my left hand is strong enough to squeeze the clutch. I will be sitting on my bike squeezing levers as part of my exercises lol

My ribs are doing quite well, and apparently my kidney is still at least partially functional.
I have continued to lose weight, not in a bad way, just steady weight loss due to eating less.

So... silver linings.

Thanks for letting me whine to you guys =) it is such a luxury to have a bunch of big brothers I can cry to.
*hugs n loves* to you all =)

Always great to hear the progress reports.

Wife broke her foot a couple years ago in a fall. Had those damn pins. Kind of freaky to see.

Keep healing. Can you write the new bike off on your taxes? Seems like it's being used as exercise equipment in your healing.

Loren,
So glad to see your progress report is looking up, though sorry to hear about your pain I can't imagine what you have been going thru. And your doing it with such grace and humor. Wishing and praying that you heal fast and the pain leaves you.

Despite the crap of the healing process it's good to hear you're on the mend and progressing.
I never thought of using the levers as 'exercise equipment', nice!

You're a real trooper, or, maybe, in your case, a trooper-ette. Keep up the good work. Many miles await you.
