Short Intro (with question) 7 Years, 6 Months ago
Hello, Jona here, recently purchased an "04" XV17AS Roadie, 2400 current miles, sat for 5 years, said to have been currently serviced. I cut the mufflers off the origional exhaust because it was so quiet I couldn't hear the "sweet spot" for shifting purposes, running the straight pipes was just too damned obnoxious for the civilians, so, I installed a set of V&H Short Shots with baffles left in, I'm liking them just fine, my next mod I am opting for is the Kuryakyn Twin Velocity Plus Air Kit, the reason being, it appears to be a very good air system without hampering my already limited leg room.

OK, the million dollar question, I have read all the re-jetting info stated here and was very impressed by the level of intelligence of the forum members responses to all the questions...no, I am not an ass-kisser, however, I do know when credit is due.

Fact of the matter is, I'm not long for this world, this will be my last ride and I haven't the time to experiment, so, the question is, with said combination of new pipes and air kit and stock carb, can someone please give me all the closest to correct re-jetting numbers and adjustments needed using the stage 2 Dyno kit, (if that is in fact the kit you recommend), if I had more time, I would experiment, however, the luxury of time is no longer on my side, never was much for just sitting on my haunches and letting someone else do the work, however, I have to make this an exception to the rule, Thank You in advance for any and all assistance...Jona

Jona First thing is give us you location so we can figure out the elevation where you live. I assume the bike has no other mods to the engine other than pipes and the air kit. With this info I am sure some one that is near you with some of the same stuff can help you out.

You are in Seattle. Look on the left side of this page and find the thread "Just too lean" and see Roadkills jetting. He is just across the Sound in Kinston you should be able to follow is jetting and be pretty close, maybe a tweek or so away. Also run some type of carb claener in your fuel 5yrs is a long time for a bike to sit.

That air kit comes with a jet kit, follow it and then see if you need to "fix it". Most Kury kits will run a tad rich. That is a good start.

Hello all, sorry, I was having a rough time signing in, Thank You all very much for the information, I have since found out today that when they serviced it, they messed with the carb, what they did, I have no idea, however, it will only idle with the enricher out to the first click, all the way in, she dies, so, I'm kind of at a loss where to begin, damned near tempted just to buy a new carb, however, it runs well enough to motor with, so, therefore I believe the problems with it can be worked out, yes, I live in Seattle, Sea Level to somewhere around 6000' in elevation within an hour

You don't need a new carb. Plenty of talent and help here. All it needs is a little tweaking. The smart ones will chime in and help with jetting.

Re:Short Intro (with question) 7 Years, 6 Months ago
I have decided to take the project on, without a doubt, there will be a plethora of questions, I think I will handle it like a murder investigation, knowns and unknowns until the crime is solved, first question, is there any way you can get the correct amount of air induction needed out of a stock air kit by tweaking it? Currently my mpg is averaging 40-45, not bad....acceleration is not too bad, however, at level cruise you can feel the engine missing enough to be annoying, enricher is out to first click at all times, if pushed to wall, she'll die, I reckon the enricher problem is my second question already, only mod thus far is V&H Short Shots, no leaks to date on exhaust, third question, recommended fuel/carb cleaner additive, fourth question, on the starboard side of the engine there is a fuel/air enricher adjustment control knob under the right hand side of the air kit, any enlightenment there for me? Hey, again, Thank You

PS: If I appear ignorant, it is probably because I am, I'm just an old pensioned out Harley rider who decided late in life to upgrade to a real scoot
