Clutch or oil question 5 Months ago
I've had this Roadie for more than a year now and I have a question about the clutch.
When I got the bike it had 6200 miles on it. I bought it in Florida and drove it back to Connecticut. I've finally turned ten thousand miles this past weekend, but for the last two thousand miles I have noticed the clutch will slip on hard acceleration. Now, here are some factors... When I bought the bike the dealer said he put dino oil in it when he did the oil change and before I picked it up I asked him to do a change to full synthetic.
That's been running in it since, but I don't know what brand or weight oil is in there...
So, could I have car oil that reduces the clutch grip, or could I need a new clutch at ten thousand miles?

Why would you have anyone put oil in that you don't approve of? Make sure you use motorcycle oil that is approved for wet clutches. Most of us use Mobil 1 or Amsoil 10-40 or 20-50. If that doesn't improve the slip, just change the clutch spring.

Read posts all over the web about folks needing clutch work early on and others showing 50, -75,000 miles with no ill effects.

Either wrong oil or power launches must be the norm. One, or the other.

Maybe both.

Spring is fatigued out. Has as much to do with age as how you use the clutch. Mine went a dozen years and near 50k miles before it slipped. Others were slipping with less than 10K.
