HUGE Thax goes out to Curt, DocShadow and JD750ace 3 Years, 1 Month ago
And to all those who have participated in my nearly 2 year ordeal of trying to get my bike running correctly!

It's amazing how deep you can get down the rabbit hole, when you *think* you've fixed the initial problem, only to spend the next year plus tweaking other things, because in reality, the fist problems was never truly fixed!! …Then once you *DO* fix the originating problem some year or so later, you have to go back on and undo all those *other* things you did, which momentarily led you to believe you had fixed it…which you hadn't.

Thank you to Curt for identifying the initial problem nearly two years ago; the intake. I followed his directions and resurfaced as well as ported the intake, and even used Haylomar; so I thought I'd had it licked. Not so!! As I found out a few days later that one of the orings had gotten bunched up and never made it in place, But I had so much Haylomar on there, I was convinced it'd make up for the lost o-ring. ...First mistake. Later, I think I may have been Davej who pointed me toward making my own gaskets. If it wasn't you, my apologies to whomever it was.

Next was when, on a whim, I chose to follow the Weislake method of adjusting the float bowl; which nearly two years on I found out was wrong!!!.. Thanks to DocShadow for providing the more accurate image, using a ruler, demonstrating the 7mm proper level. After the Wieselake, I'd had mine around 5.5mm then recently lowered it to 4mm because I was being a dumbarse and got it backward, but after using DocShadow's method, I'm *spot* on at 7mm and all is good!!!! [see below]

Lastly, I used JD750ace's jetting based on his profile and it's about freakin time!!! I actually want to ride now!!… This may be a little premature, as I've yet to check the mileage, but all else is good! …And i'm confident the mileage will be too.

Thanks guys!!!! I literally couldn't have done it without you!

FYI- The ruler I had used MM on the opposite side, so I wrapped a piece of tape around it to give me correct inch representation of 7mm.

And another big thanks goes out to Kai, for providing me with a Gremlin bell… Let's hope the damn thing works!

Glad to hear you have it all good now. I set mine using Docs thread the first time I opened my carb back about 09 and it has been perfect. That is the only method I ever use. JD's jetting is a good place to be with a 1600 and the bell from Kai is also a good thing to have on the bike. All is good

Doc, does this mean that you're going to keep your bike after all? No more talk about selling it?

Glad to know you are finally doing a happy dance! That float level being that high would contribute to your poor fuel economy, your fouling (do I have SVS?) and your general disappointment with what you had going on. Run safe, my friend. I owe my jetting and carb setup to members here. Curt for porting and the K&N RA-66V filter, DaveJ for confirmation via his "remote AFR gauge" of what things tended to feel like being accurate for how it should be running, can't remember who for the 1700 ignition module, and it just goes on and on. 70's here next week too!

P.S., it may be bad luck to cuss at your bell! (damn thing better work)

I had my issues two years ago chasing a wire issue in the pickup coil. Frustrated as hell. took me many months to figure out and kills the attitude for riding. Can't imagine chasing stuff for two years, but I can appreciate it!

Very happy you're on the good side of it! Go enjoy that bike for a while now!
