Do you recommend following the tech article then? Anything you would change?

I hate being a naysayer. but some of us prefer the pump. I can tell u when it dies in traffic cuz u forgot to turn on its cock, with the pump it starts motherffing quick as teenage boy on his first date. I put my pump under right side cover, and now she shows her jugs just fine as prev described and cools better

I put mine back because I didn't like it running out of gas at 1/4 tank. Also mine would suck the bowl dry at 95 which was probably actually 90.

I've pretty much never turned off my petcock except to remove the tank. I'll sometimes get a little sputter or two at about 160 miles on a tank but it's not every tank. Ran 90+ indicated for an hour and a half last weekend without ever running the bowl dry. Sounds like poorly adjusted floats to me if that's happening.

Isn't there some rest of the story here, Scott. Namely, the size of the needle and seat you used, and you were in 4th, not 5th? My memory is churning. I seem to remember extenuating circumstances,..no?
Even with the 2.5 Suzi valve, which is a pump style valve, I had to run wide open throttle 1st through 3rd, and it would starve at the limiter in 3rd, finally. That was two up. With the 3.0(a true gravity flow needle and seat) and the float set to the 04 and later spec, no issues at all. I can't starve it, even when trying to.
Both my bikes are stock height(not lowered in the rear), and I run all the way to reserve, on a regular basis. Always about 4 gallons to fill. I've been to the 180 mark a time or two, before having to switch to reserve.

there is the grizzley needle and seat which is 3mm from memory, this gets rid of all the problems and the float level is raised about 1mm and as I said prior vent the tank and you won't notice any difference, boats.net has them for about $20 delivered, another thing to remember is to run on reserve and this will get rid of any moisture/water in the tank, if you only run on the main supply when you do go to reserve there could be enough water to stop the motor

No, no rest of the story. I'm the one that first introduced the Grizzly valve here after learning about it from a member on the RSR forum. I used it when I first tried pumpless. I also raised the float level 2-3 mm's above the stock height to try to equal the extra amount that was drawn down with the choke full out when compared to pumped vs pumpless.
I was in 4th and shifting to 5th didn't help. It still wouldn't get above 95. It would pick back up as soon as I let off.
Why mine would suck the bowl dry I don't know. It's completely stock, needle and all.
With the shock adjusted to full preload mine would run all the way to empty before having to switch to reserve. That's a rough ride though so when I readjusted for a more comfortable ride it would run out at 1/4 tank.
Different springs in the front could make a difference also. Apparently it doesn't take much of a change for the fuel to pool in the rear of the tank.
