The distance between the center line of the bushing and the plate on the end of the spring should be between 42.5mm & 51.5mm. Shorter distance = softer. Look on page 17 of your owners manual. Your relay arm is backwards if you want the bike lowered.

Here is a link to the "flip"
Flip

edit: Oops, it is page 17 of the assembly manual.

agreed, the arm appears to be in the stock position, you will need to flip it if you want to lower.....

Definitely needs to be flipped to lower it. The ground part should be towards the shock - That is the purpose of grinding it, so it will clear the shock.

Just want to give a huge thanks for the help on this project. Had just gotten things switched around so my previously flipped bike got unflipped. Got things done the right way with all you guys' help and now LOVE it. Just what I was hoping for. Again, this is all what makes this forum work. The key that made things work easier was having a buddy lift up on the tire assembly to match up the bolt and hole as I reassembled.

Glad you got it worked out. Give us some feedback on the spring. I am considering one myself until I have the funds for an air ride.

I'll do that. Hard to tell much difference sitting in the garage, but hoping to get it out this week as it is supposed to get nice. Going on vacation Thursday to Cancun to get out of Godforsaken Iowa for a week. Just trying to figure out a way to check the bike in on the plane as carryon.

I think you would need the GO-GO-GADGET Mod to get it checked as carry-on

So the distance between the shock end and the spring cup should be between 1 and 5/8 to 2 inches?

I found this measurement in owners manual. Mine looks like it has been flipped but the ride is somewhat rough. I did notice smoother ride when passenger on board. Looks like stock spring but never seen an aftermarket one other than the photo above. My bike measure's 2inches. I dug out the yamaha wrench but the jamb nut wont break loose from the adjuster so until I get some better tools I will leave it. I am just gathering info here. I did remember to spray some wd40 on it. Bike has 32,000 miles on it if that matters.

Can I change the setting for loaded conditions and empty or just pick a happy medium and leave it?
