...tons of mid-range... 8 Years, 8 Months ago
Greetings from beautiful n/e Georgia.
Just finished-up "going pumpless". While I had the carburetor off I decided to do some mild porting to the intake. Radiused the corners, didn't really hog it out. Carb was jetted w/205 main. I think that's a Kuryakyn thing;the bike had a "Twin Velocity" breather on it when I bought it[replaced that breather w/one from Ultima]. Carb also had the stock needle in it. Float level was good.
After reassembly, the motor started up better than ever[PMS 2 1/2 turns out]. Turns over once & it's running.Everytime, cold or hot. It makes tons of mid-range & pulls really hard on top. But, the bottom end fell off a lot. The motor used to pull HARD right off idle & had lots more punch to it.
The motor runs real good, but it dosen't like to run under 55mph in 5th gear , although it begins to get happy around 70mph & it's real happy @ 80+mph.
Are these characteristics of the intake being rubbed-on? Would a "torque ring"[Torque-Something;Baron's sells 'em] put back some of the grunt back in the motor? Or, should I try to find some low-end in the accelerator pump?
Any & all thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks,JW.

If you're running 55 in 5th gear, you're shifting way too early. 5th gear is just overdrive and I don't hit that gear until at least 70 MPH. R*s LOVE RPMs. My shift point is 3,000 RPM or a little above, so I'm in 3rd gear at 55, shifting into 4th around 60. That's all...these suckers just HATE to be lugged.

if you like the T.V. and want it to work properly, use either the barons jet and needle kit or a dynojet kit. the standard needle with the 205 works, but not as good as it should.

with a reprofiled maniflod DON´T use the torque ring thingys. you´d be just wasting your money

what pipes are you running?

...oh,that T.V; never did like it. It looked like a mailbox hanging on the side of the motor. I've replaced it w/a Ultima Performance breather. Looks much better.
