carb heater gasket 8 Years, 8 Months ago
Is the "gasket" under the carb heater(between heater & ground clip)a gasket or a washer? The book says it's a gasket. The heater on my '00 R/S has a washer in place of the gasket. Does that matter?

Mine is just a washer. I don't think the hole is open to anything inside the carb.

I've had it off but never took note what it was.

It does not need a 'traditioal' gasket as it does not need to be sealed so it's probably just a small washer.

The entire "carb heater" is un-necessary. I have an 03 and it has been removed; don't see a bit of differance!

Ive often wondered about that. Clifford, you live in FLA where it warm year round (pretty much). Would it make a difference if you were in a colder climate?

Absolutely none! I suppose that in the dead of winter if you get enough water in your gas the heater might keep it from freezing.

I beg to differ ... it does not have to be "dead of winter" to get carb icing.

Icing of the carb is primarly a function of ambient temperature and humidity ... the lower the temperature and higher the humidity the more chances that you will have icing.

Both the vaporization of the fuel and the flow of air/fuel through the venturi, which causes the mix to compress and expand, cools the carb. This effect is more pronounced on acceleration when there is more gas flowing throught the carb or if you are running closer to the stoichiometric (good reason to run rich ).

You're looking at about a 40 F drop in temp so if you running at ambient temp of 70 F, you can drop the carb to around freezing. If you are running gas with alcohol it becomes even worse as the temperature of evaporation for alcohol is lower than gas.

So if you're running in Nevada where it is hot and dry .... I seriously doubt you're going to get any icing.
