Hi everyone im a very newbie to the motorcycle world and don't know much about carbs. my bike was running but would not idle properly and so i began messing with the accelerator pump timing screw on the carb and now it will not run at all
does anyone have advice on how i can get this thing running properly with out paying a mechanic? i do have some limited mechanical knowledge and have worked in an auto motive shop thanks

What year is your bike and do you have an owners manual on it? There is an idle screw down between the jug on the right side clock wise increases and counter clockwise decreases. You also must use the choke (enricher) to start the bike and in cold weather you should leave it on for a while. The choke is on the left side and you pull it full out crank the bike and let it run until it starts to rather funny and then push the choke half way in and ride the bike that way for about 2 miles then push it in.

Welcome Hawkeye. We have several members in your neck of the woods who might be able to help.

As for now, as suggested, try to back up and un-do what you have done. The accelerator pump timing has nothing to do with idle.
Also, please complete your profile so we are aware of what you have as far as year, and any mods that have been done.
If I had a buck for every person that came on here and said they didn't know much about carbs and were a little timid about breaking into one, and ended up being a tinker hound, I could have bought a 4th bike by now! LOL

We'll get you straightened up one way or the other.

Here's a good read to get you started on this particular carburetor.

Looks like you are in good hands right now. Listen to these guys and ask as many questions as it takes to get the thing back running.

And, supply as much information on the bike that you know. Mods and past troubles listed early will narrow down the problem much faster.

Cuts down on the questions that will be asked to diagnose the problem.

I've seen threads go on for pages until the OP throws in a, "By the way, I removed something in there and the problem started."
