Tim is tops. You might find it was already slipping some. That purple plate hooks up sweet, btw. I baby my clutches, so I was at 59K when I changed mine last Saturday.

I don't abuse my clutches all that bad, but I do ride the piss out of my bikes. Didn't feel like the old one was slipping at all. I specifically tried hard roll ons at higher gears on recent rides. Gonna try the same thing with the new plate and see if I can discern any difference. Even if I can't, it's still well worth the preventative measure. Especially after seeing what happened to Jake and Grant on their way to NC last year.

Yea.... word to the wise....... dont let an air cooled bike sit in traffic in gear for like 30 minutes especially if you are going through rush hour tradfic with an accident on the intestate in Chattanooga, tn lol.

I basically smoked my clutches because of the heat sitting in traffic last year on the way to the smokey mountain meet and greet. Honesty, the roadie is my first air cooled bike out of 13 or so bikes in the last 10 years. I didnt know that i should shut it off and pull over after a certain amount of time. All 3 roadies had problems with the clutches that day but i probably beat on my bike the worst lol so the others were fine after they cooled down and mine continued to slip.

I actually need to call tim and place an order for another gasket for the clutch cover. I had a shop up in the mountains change the clutch because i didnt have enough tools and do the batnett clutch plate kit also. Ever since then, i smell a bit of oil after riding about 100 miles or so. I think the shop didnt clean that old gasket off well enough or possibly just installed the new one incorrectly and im getting some seepage from the cover. I never see oil but maybe when it heats up i can smell it. What do yall think?

Could be. Weird that you never see any oil. I used to smell oil like that before I re routed my breather to the underside of the bike. Where is your breather?

I am thinking cheap w/ the $50EBC spring on denniskirk. Mine only slips under high load, but since I'm running the rotella oil instead of the Lucas, I do notice it does slip a little easier/more than before. 60,000mi on my 03midnight.

There is an old saying..... "you get what you paid for" which stands true for many things in life. Do yourself a favor and dont go cheap now which will end up costing you more later.

$155 for the Barnett plate and clutch cover gasket from Metric Magic. That's pretty cheap for something that I know works very well.

Technique is a factor in that as well, but when traffic is inching along on flat ground, even those of us who don't ride the lever at stops are working the snot out of it. I think low flow of cooler oil is a factor as well. It's not like it's force lubed. The first time mine ever slipped was inching along like that on a hot day. Not long after, the high power/high gear slipping started.
The SV clutch is the traditional 6 spring setup and has never slipped in any circumstance, but she's water cooled too.

It was pretty hot that day and stuck in traffic going up a bridge almost to a complete stand still sometimes for at least 30 minutes. And we had been on the road for 7 hours or so as well. I also tried to adjust the cable at the top as much as i could but it was still tight. I should have adjusted it at the bottom a little bit too so that the cable wasn't tight anymore, instead I rode it with a semi tight cable and slipping for another 250 miles lol so by the time I got up the mountain it was toast!

I definitely learned my lesson with this air cooled bike in the heat and in stand still traffic. After a few minutes, Pull Over! You live and you learn!
