Bought my daughter a Yamaha piano. I have Yamaha outdoor speakers on my lanai, ride a Yamaha, and have a 200HP Yamaha on my fishing boat. I love the brand. Ran into a guy who put two sets of Yamaha twins on his boat in one year and then put a set of Mercury's on and said he is finally happy. I asked him what went wrong with the Yamaha's? He said nothing went wrong with them but thieves kept on stealing them!

Very few of us on here bought brand new back when that was possible. What make us think that we would behave differently simply because Yamaha decided to build what we think we want?

If I was in the market to drop $20,000+ on a new bike it would be an HD. But I'm not. And neither are most of us.

Yes, it would be cool to see what Yamaha could build to compete with the new HD products. But, how many of us would sign on the dotted line for that kind of debt?

Yep

Yamaha's last bike's retailed for $13-14k(before they blew them out for a little more than half of that at the end),
if they bring one out with "what we all want" it would be a few grand more than that.

So how many here would be in the $17k range and use it on a new Yamaha?

Another curious question,
how many people here bought their bikes new?

(I have a Yamaha snowmobile.. And as I said before, Yamaha jumped hard on sleds this year. They have a new 200 HP turbo, most in a production sled ever. Just don't want to play with big bikes anymore though...)

I'll bet any new big-bore v-twins from Yama-mama will be liquid-cooled, and I won't look at 'em twice. I've always considered any bike with all that 'stuff' a two-wheeled sports car!

I want a motorcycle. A motorcycle to me has two big cylinders, is air-cooled, and looks and sounds like some throw-back to a good many years ago. My Road Stars do that for me, and I being very mechanical, I don't buy anything new, as I am a 'value' shopper that buys used, and just keeps 'em running myself for small change for years at a time.

I thoroughly enjoy doing maintenance and relatively easy repairs, and pocketing the difference.

I've been opposed to liquid cooled too. I understand all the benefits but no one ever made one that looked right. Until now. The new Triumph bobber I thought was air cooled they hid the radiator so damn well. They are getting real close to convincing me.

bought mine new in 2001.

not ever considered changing it nor want to, so resale value doesn´t even enter my thinking.

Just remember, the better they hide the plumbing the more of a PITA is it so get to it as it ages.
I had a GL500 that I don't think I could ever find where that sickly sweet smell came from every time I rode more than 25 miles.

I bought my 07 Silverado for $12,250 new in 08 as last years model. I have been looking at prices for similarly configured Harleys and Indians and they are at about $27,000. I would love to get a new Yamaha for a $10k savings over the competitors.

With the advent of the new 107 & 114 motors, and suspension upgrades, the HD market is becoming littered with used bikes with very little mileage and usually $$$ of accessories, for cheap. Add in low interest financing, the death of Victory, the current climate in America to buy American, and I just don't see how a new big cruiser from Yamaha will play well.

Very few of us on here bought brand new back when that was possible. What make us think that we would behave differently simply because Yamaha decided to build what we think we want?

Not me.

I hear what you are saying but just to put things in a bit more perspective from my point of view...I don't know where you could find a new HD for $20,000...I know that there is an exchange factor BUT.....touring bikes with accessories are selling here for $40,000 + new....even with exhange that's still $30,000 + USD....just sayin
