Starter question 1 Year ago
|
|
Hey guys,
I have a quick question for you. When I hit my starter button my engine tries to turn over, then nothing for two or three seconds, followed by a quiet clicking sound, then the bike starts right up nice and strong. I'm curious if this is likely the starter needing to replaced? Or a relay? Or what? Thoughts?

do you have a lithium battery fitted?
i used to have one, and it used to do exactly that, so i went back to the standard lead/acid battery.

You might even want to remove the back(brush cover) on the starter and check the brushes and clean all the crap out that you are gonna find in there. You will be surprised at the difference that will make. Check the battery and clean/tighten all the connections.

You will be shocked at what you will find in there. It will likely be a nasty mess. Also a good time to look at the brushes and change if needed.

Also check the top of the battery terminals. They should be bright and shiny. If they are a dark color then it needs to be scraped away until the bright lead shows. Also the underside of the wire terminals. It doesn't take much at all to insulate 12 volts.
