Nah, the filter can't tell the difference. Just use a good one.

I hate that Wal*Mart discontinued their SuperTech store brand filters by Champion. They were both good and cheap. I have a few in store for the next few seasons.

Stinger's right... test results I've seen indicate the Purolator Pure One is one of the finest oil filters out there. Despite that, the SuperTech ST 7317 is a perfectly fine filter and under $3.

I'm not knocking all you fellows that pay big bucks for your oil and/or your filters... you're just luvin' your baby, and that's fine. But, I've been riding and driving for more than 40 years now, and a good oil and a good filter will serve you just fine and you'll go for many years and miles with no problems... today's oils are better than ever.

So, for me... I go with value, the most protection I can get for the least amount of $$$. For me, that's the Shell Rotella T 5w-40 Synthetic in the pre-measured 4 qt. jug and the ST 7317 filter... both found on the shelves of Wally*World. What could be better than an oil change for about $22 with perfectly fine products that do their job?

So, go ahead and buy $125 filtration systems and $9 a qt oil, and luv your baby. I love mine too, but she can't tell a cubic zircon from a diamond.

Interesting. This must be a Questcap impostor.

Funny how this topic just came up again as I have question.

My buddy has a '99 1600. He just did his oil change and said how difficult it was to get 4 quarts of oil in. I asked him if he drained both oil plugs. He said his only has the one plug up front. I guaranteed he has two drain plugs. He just called me and said he still can only see the one.

He also drains his oil by having his front tire elevated so the bike is on an upward incline. Not sure he is getting a good drain that way.

Before I head over there and point out the obvious, am I correct that the 1600's have two drain plugs?

The second oil drain plug, is almost directly under the dipstick, on the bottom of the oil tank.

He's not. Know wonder he can't see the second plug.

Just wanted to update what happened when I changed the oil again. Put in a new Fram filter, 1 gallon of Shell Rotella T 15W40, just as I used to, everything is OK. Moral of the story for me??? NEVER use a NAPA filter again! My mechanic guru thought the NAPA filter may have been the culprit by creating too much pressure, forcing the oil into the tank. Seems to have been the problem. The oil is now right in the middle of the hash marks, even after a long hard ride.
