After lowering the rear, you may want to swap the stock spring to the stiffer one, highly recommended. 
Way to go Luigipepper, I also have polished my own items on the bike and removed many a zinc coated fastener to replace with a SS fastener polished at home.  |

When I changed my tires (went to www Metzelers), I did the flip. Now the fender follows the white wall line and looks great and, at 235lbs, I haven't noticed any more bottoming out or pedal scraping than before (but did tighten the shock spring). And I ground off what I thought was more than enough because there's plenty of clearance between the relay arm and the shock ... but, on deceleration, I get a load chirping sound (?). At first , I thought it was the drive belt hitting the guard because I can't duplicate the noise while standing still. Anybody else having this problem?
I ride an '01 Midnight Star ... a YamaHawg Road Kill if you will.

Check your belt tension. Might be loose.

i had the chirping sound too. turned out to be the lower belt guard. it had warped itself in and was rubbing on the belt on deceleration. took it off and no more chirps.

And, hartick ... I don't have the lower belt guard (nor mud guard for that matter), so that isn't it. But, thanx for the input.

Thanks for the Welcome. I tightened the belt tension a few turns and hope that does it but, won't get out to check it until it warms a little here in Brooklyn. (With highs of below freezing and wind chills nearing zero ... I'l let her sit in the garage for now.)

Just remember that it doesn't take whole lot of turns to snug up the belt tension. even a half a turn or not even a half turn, and you can see the belt tighten up. So just don't tighten it too much or it is possible that you will put too much stress on your rear bearings and ruin them.

I actually used a cresent wrench, so three limited turns might equal 3/4 of one full turn. I figured a little bit at a time. But thanks for pointing that out.

As was posted, you don't need much.
If you hear a whirring sound then you are too tight and must loosen it up. Go 1/4 turn (on each adjuster) at one time.
I assume that you loosened not only the axle nut but the brake adjustment bracket bolt.
