If you hear a whirring sound then you are too tight and must loosen it up. Go 1/4 turn (on each adjuster) at one time.

I assume that you loosened not only the axle nut but the brake adjustment bracket bolt.

The r/s caliper adjuster bolt? If that's what you're speaking about. (I may not know what is called what.) And thanks for the heads up on the 'whirring' noise, just in case.

Remember, I get a loud chirping noise on throttle deceleration only ... a noise I thought was the belt rubbing the guard. It cannot be duplicated when not in motion. And, the reason why I did the 'flip' was because the tires were off being replaced.

That's correct ... you will only hear the chirp when you let off the throttle.

Well, I am happy to report that, finally, after having nice enough weather when I'm not at work.I just got back from a quick road trip to test out the loose belt chirping noise. Almost completely gone and only when I really gun her and back off will it happen now. Another 1/4 - 1/2 turn should do it. Thanks to all for their input.

Very satisfied with this mod. I did it today in a few hours. It could have taken less time but I took it slow each step at a time. I tried at first by not removing the tire but soon gave in. My bike lost 2 1/8" inches when measured from the same place before and after. This does not appear to affect the travel at all. Me and my buddy tried to bottom it out and were unsuccessful. The fender swallowed the rear tire right up. I thought I did not grind enough away the first time and took away some more only to find that if I lifted the swing arm to allign the bolts I would not have to grind away more. I took photos of the whole process. This was my 1st mod to my new/used 07 Roadie Midnight.

Will "The Flip" do the same thing as this lowering kit, or is the lowering kit somehow different?

Considering doing this mod to my 03 1600 as the gap between fender and tire drives me nuts. I have only had the bike a few weeks so this is the first thing I may do to make it mine. I looked around a bit the other day to see what I was up against and the mod looks fairly simple but I noticed the spring I have installed is yellow and I have what looks like the stock one in a pile of parts that came with the bike. Is the yellow spring a stiffer ride? I read on here people suggested stiffening the ride anyway with the lower ride height, so is that spring enough or should I further stiffen thing with the adjustment as well? I don't care if its a hard ride as my last bike was a hard tail... any movement feels plush to me lol.
The pile of parts also includes the stock exhaust and there are some V&H on there now. Not sure the model but you can see them in my picture. Are these pipes more or less likely to whisper sweet nothings to me in the corners? I've excepted the floor boards will be singing lol.
