Barons has a similiar setup that replaces the original, I used that so that I wasn't too low so as to drag. Jim

Hey BlackStar

We don't have any articles yet on raking frames or stretching tanks, but we have been promised some and expect to see them real soon.

Send me an email (through any of the 'Contact Us' links on this site) and I might be able to help get you to some answers.

I have an article on stretching the stock tank. You can see it here: http://ca.geocities.com/docshadow@rogers.com/Tank_extension.htm

You are welcome to use it.

This looks Great! I've been wanting to lower my R*, but have not had the bucks. This is a way that I can. However, I do have some questions.

My wife has her own R*, but will occasionally ride with me. This is generally when we're doing some long distance traveling, like our trip to Lake Tahoe. With the 2 of us, fully loaded saddlebags, and loaded T-Bag, I would imagine we're pushing close to 500 lbs. Under those conditions, I'm concerned about loosing ride comfort, suspension travel, bottoming out, etc. I'm fully aware of the fact that it will be easier to scrape floorbaors, exhaust, etc, and that I can adjust for.

Next question, if one was to do this and wanted to go back to stock, you just have to take it apart and turn the relay arm back around, right?

Lastly, a friend who had a R* once told me that to lower his scoot about 1", all he did was cut the lock nut off the chock, and turn it all the way out. Ever heard of this?

I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

I did the flip also. The replacement bones are aluminum The stock is cast steel. Even with all the grinding I did on my "bone" I think it is still stronger than the after market ones. Oh ya, you will grind you boards!

I performed this operation on my 04 Roadstar. Pretty easy to do and no problems for a number of months now. Be advised that you must exercise caution while cornering and crossing bumps or pot holes as it will bottom out much easier. The ride position is better though and the bike looks better. Also not that my wife rides with me on occasion (additional 110-120 lbs) and I have NOT bottomed out. Overall I would recommend it.

i´ve heard that due to the changed angle of the shock absorber, you can knacker it (the shock) in a very short time, though i don´t have any first hand experience to draw from on this subject.

anyone had any problems after performing the flip?

I only problem I am aware of is 'scrapping' of lower parts, especially when riding two-up.

It's recommended to stiffen the suspension up with the adjusting nut to somewhat compensate for this.

I just did the mod yesterday. This was really easy once I figured out I needed to move the swingarm up a bit to get out the long middle bolt. Also, it was much easier to reinstall with the shock lifted and tied to the frame above to keep it out of the way with a few zip ties. This is a great mod and really makes the bike look a lot better. Excellent article!

Also, I went to Harbour freight and bought a bench grinder on sale for $40 and a stand on sale for $16. Now I can also use the bench grinder on one side with a polishing pad to polish the parts I have been wanting to bling out. I plan to do the forks first. I did this on a suzuki 1400 intruder years ago and found that a good spray paint stripper works great to remove the clear coat before you start to polish. Then, you don't have to waist so much time sanding.
