Nice work... Just curious but is some part of that going to vent to atmosphere? Don't know about the V-Star but in the case of the R*, if it doesn't vent, pressure will build up inside the crank case and oil tank.

I had a kink in my vent hose and was surprised how much pressure built up. It caused oil seepage at various points on the motor, and when I opened the oil filler, you could hear a surprising amount of air escaping. It sounded like opening a shaken 2-liter bottle of soda. It's the main reason I did the Erbman vent and the problem hasn't happened since.

hey Doc..... yes... after the hot oilly gas travels through the baffles (and becomes oil free..... ?)it will vent. i hope it will have lossed the oil but if it hasnt i might just stick an oil trap of a compressor....?

Re:bobber project 1 Year, 11 Months ago
stuffing baffles..... well my plan to stuff the baffle in to the pipe was flawed...... i heated the pipe to expand it but as soon as i started pushing in the aluminium baffle it jammed. i realized the aluminium was sucking up the heat very quickly and also expanding.
so i relaxed the fit a little smoothed out any issues used lithium grease and pressed it cold.

i first tried it in my 12 ton press but it couldnt cut the mustard so it ended up in the 50 ton.

decided to cut some finns on the pipe just because.

never throw anything away.... need to make the hose fittings.... really just the pipes for the hoses to slide on. lucky for me i still had the old rear brake linkage, which was just the size i wanted. i only needed a shallow bend so it would bring the hoses back into the middle of the bike, so i was able to use the little pipe bender.

hold the fort.... i think i heard the door bell....... fedx dropping off my k&n filter.

pretty happy i love it.

again.... did it again..... got excited and forgot to take some pic's.

but this is what trouble i had...... i also planed on heating the al finns up to expand the part, then slide the now sleeved baffles in....... but it didnt want to play ball.
then i decided to use retaining paste as a lubricant and sealer..... press it cold and see..... it jammed, so before i reached the point of no return..... i pulled it apart, relaxed the fit a little and this time it was going to go in or going to break....?
i did get it in but not without some damage, distorted it a little and ruined the first finn with the dome face. i had no choice but to remove it and re-shape the part..... i think it looks better....?

also made the two curved pipes for the hoses and welded them on the end cap, which was also the fixing bracket. now all i have to do is tweak it all to make it fit and theres not that much room to play with.

it will be fixed to the heat shield that the air intake sits on. the out-let will slide through the frame where the wires use to feed to the battery.

Totally in awe of your project.

I think you need to mill new side covers for the motor and transfer too ... it needs to all flow together, right?

Re:bobber project 1 Year, 11 Months ago
quick question.... who knows if it matters where i re-connect the neg wire from the battery....?
as i have moved the battery and basically all of the wires, fuses, relays etc..... to under the pet tank..... i want to connect the neg wire to the closest part of the frame i can find....? the old fixing point was to a bolt on the lower rear of the engine...... i am thinking.... rather then extend the neg wire to reach the same fix point....? i can just bolt it to the frame near the new position of the bat.....?

any issues with that....? frame.... engine.... its all the same, isnt it...?

Just stay away from anything that is attached to the main frame via bearings or bushings like the swingarm.

The neg lead on our Roadies, connects to the the top of the oil tank. I think as long as you find a good solid connection somewhere, you should be fine.
