'06 Factory Rear Mono Upgrade Query 1 Year, 9 Months ago

WE have an '06 Road Star Midnite Silverado and ride 2-up all the time. Does anyone make an aftermarket air assist shock for these things? We got the rate set all the way up as far as you can and we still bottom out occasionally. The Royal Stars have an air valve to put more suspension in the ride. Why dont these things ? Thanks in advance !!

As far as I know there is no air shock for the roadie. There is however what we fondly call a roadwing, it is a goldwing shock modified to fit a roadie. It is a vast improvement over the stock suspension

Yes, the stock R* shock is sorely under spring and damped. So yes, the "Roadwing" is the way to go! That said, if you're dead set on an air bag to give your bike the "slammed" look, there are those who've done it, but I don't think that's what you're asking for. Smokescreens is the member who makes the Roadwing, look him up and he'll take care of you. Not to mention, they're dirt cheap compared to other aftermarket options.
P.S. If you haven't already done so, throwing some Progressive springs in the forks is also a must do for the suspension on these bikes. And if you want to go all out, they also make something called "Gold Emulators" which improve the rebound and damping of the front forks as well.

from Puyallup, WA. MikeyC lives in Albany. Start a new thread and introduce yourself.
Search Roadwimg on this site. There are tons of threads about it. You can make your own or buy it inexpensively from Smokescreens (Jason). You can either have an electric pump for adjustment or a simpler manual RAP to adjust the preload.
Read this thread below. We'd love to have the two of you join us the end of June. PM me and I will give you the final details.

My wife and I are not small by any means and with the Roadwing we have no issues at all. I bought mine from Smokescreens and compared to other options it's cheap.

I purchased a low mileage stock shock, and 129Drifter donated a Progressive spring to me awhile back. The stock shock was shot on my solo bike, so I got around to making the switch a month or so back, and set the preload about halfway, before adding the Progressive spring to the new to me shock.
I hit a little pothole(a whole different hole then the kind you guys have up north. These won't swallow a bike), and immediately noticed a lot harsher ride. It's great for my solo bike. It would be a real improvement over the stock setup, for two up, also.
Re the Roadwing. There are a bunch of guys who have purchased and installed them here on the forum. The adjustable ride is a nice option. It'd be everything you'd need, to cure the two up bottoming out issue.

Either a progressive shock or a roadwing will be a vast improvement in handling for you. I can do a roadwi g for you or if your handy you can do one yourself too. I would shy away from a spring only upgrade as the shock itself is a major weak link in the rear. However if your a big guy or like a lowered bike a spring and roadwing would be a good combo.
And i vote race tech in the forks for a total suspension upgrade. It will make the bike handle like a much lighter bike.
