+! on what Smokescreens said. I bought one from him and the wife loves it, not to mention how much I do. Later JD750Ace went way out of his way to get my forks set up with the Racetech springs and the Gold emulators. You won't believe how much those two up grades will make your bike handle and ride. Mother Yamy builds a super fine bike but they sure lack in the suspension and seat department. My .02 cents worth.

That's because Yamaha's two up test riders, weigh less combined, then our average member solo, here on RSC.

I would shy away from a spring only upgrade as the shock itself is a major weak link in the rear.

Trying to go the most inexpensive route, I too chose the upgraded spring only option. Unfortunately, like Smokescreens says, the shock itself is the major weak link. Adding a stronger spring to a shock that can't handle the damping resulted in a "pogo" effect at higher speeds on the freeway.

I had a few to many pucker moments when cruising along the freeway, only to hit a small bump in the road and I was suddenly transported back to my youth, sitting on the big spring pony at the playground... and not in a good way. Maybe it was my life flashing before my eyes at 75mph...

In the end, I could have saved myself $70 and skipped the spring altogether and just gone straight with the Roadwing.

The RAP [remote adjustable preload] is a great feature to have. I chose the manual adjuster, over the electric, because the easy of installation. I have it such, that I can reach down and make adjustments while ridding. When I take a passenger, I crank it up to handle the load. But just this past weekend, on a ride, I had it up too much and the bumps were a little harsh. So with my passenger on back, while riding, I just reached down and dialed it back a few turns and problem solved.

FWIW For any Roadstar I own in the future, the Roadwing will be an *absolute MUST*. That and the Progressive fork springs with heavier weight fork oil up front.

P.S. From Northern California

WoW you guys really don't like replacing the spring. What was the best fix before the invention of the roadwing??? It was a progressive spring!!! Of course it isn't the same as a roadwing or a progressive 465 shock but it also isn't hundreds of dollars. Before I installed the roadwing this progressive spring worked perfect on my OEM shock when it was properly adjusted to my weight. I even installed it on the roadwing and it worked great when I was 320 lbs but it made it too stiff after I lost 145 lbs. It was on the roadwing for over 2 yrs I just took it off my bike last week.

I am trying to find the information to get an upgraded rear shock upgrade for my bike but cant seem to locate where to find this roadwing shock assembly.
My bike is constantly bottoming out and it gets very frustrating, do you think if I raise it and tighten the factory shock this would help a little. I bought my Roadie about 2 months ago it was already lowered but I have no idea what was done to achieve that.
I would appreciate any advice about it.
thanks
steve
