getting rid of a hyper charger 10 Months, 1 Week ago
so whats a super cheap alternative to a hyper charger?
i want to get rid of mine (hate the damn thing) it's super uncomfortable for me. i'm short LOL
i would love to do a spike or cone air breather, but that may have to wait until next season.

It was on the bike when i got it, so no stock filter.
Everything im finding looks to be at least $75 or more and i damn sure aint paying the price for some of the ones
i saw.

i am handy enough to do some mods although i am limited on tools ( no welders and such)

Shoot me some ideas i would greatly appreciate it

One of the universal K&N filters. Someone will post the part number options.

K&N filter RC1624. Under $50.00. No extra brackets required. You just have to redirect your crankcase breather hose elsewhere. I got a small breather that matches the K&N and mounted it just below. You can get one at any car parts store for around $10.00.
Then I used the bolt hole that formerly held the bottom of the stock breather to hold the idle adjuster.
Got a billet knob cover for the idle adjuster ($10.00 at J&P Cycle) to finish it off.
The breather will not interfere with your leg, allows more fresh air to the cylinders,
allows easy access to adjustment screws on the carb,
helps the bike breathe better, and has a clean look.[URL=http://s465.photobucket.com/user/pobasturd/media/IMG_0244_zps7rfsztnx.jpg.html] border='0' style='max-width:450px; ' />[/URL

If you sop around you can find it a little cheaper. This is what it looks like. Plus you need to fab some type of support bracket for it

I went with the Oval shaped K&N filter. You may have th change the pilot jet. They use a different one for the hyper charger. Isold my hypercharger for enough to cover the k&n and jet kit.
Im thrilled to not have that thing sticking out.

thanks for the suggestions everyone.
looks like an offset filter with a 60mm ID flange is what is needed.
now if i could just find a spectre or something that doesnt have a chrome top
i could maybe be happy for this season.

When you change from HC to Bak of any kind you need to check if the air jets have been changed when the HC was installed. If so you will need to put them back to stock size air jets and then check the main and pilot jet to see if it has some crazy size main like a 200 that some HC's recommend. Even the needle on the carb may be different to go with the HC. You may need to just buy a jet kit also.

i'm pretty sure I still have a stock set-up in the garage. If your interested, and it's still there you can have it for the price of shipping. (would get better performance with the K&N though) you would probably need to rejet the carb if using the stock one too.
I ran the K&N RC-1624 on my bobber with no additional brackets and had no issues with it. Did not hit it with my legs either, but I had fwd controls so my legs may have been in a little bit of a different position than with floorboads.

I run K&N universals on all 3 of mine. The RA-066V is round, and the RC 1980 is oval. Best price may be ajusa.com.

I'll post pic of the mounting bracket I made out of road sign aluminum sheet.

Under $50!
