Windshield question 7 Months ago
So I have only had one bike with a windshield and that was my ninja many moons ago. I am looking for one around the 17" height. For those of you that have one, is a smoked one vs a clear one better or is it a personal preferance? My bike is black and think that a smoked one with blacked out hardware would look good. Also are lower deflectors good to have or try out just the shield first and see if I would need them? Has anyone had trouble with the quick connect ones from Memphis Shades? Thanks in advanced.

As to smoked vs. clear, I like smoked looks, but since I look over the windshield when riding, even smoked is okay at night.

Letting you know up front my opinion will be biased!

I had a tinted Memphis windscreen on my previous ride (v-star 1100) and what I didn't like about it was you ALWAYS saw it on the bike. Clear, seems invisible until you look a little closer. As mentioned, you should really never be looking through them anyway.

One idea I had was to grab a silverado oem windscreen and powercoat all the chrome to high-gloss black - I think it would look great!

Now The bias opinion part ... I have an extra setup for just such an occasion. Trouble is, I now own a bright-coloured 05 so it would look out of place; oh, and I happen to be coming to Pittsburg the first weekend in August (not so subtle eh!).

Go with a short smoked one.

I have a tall windshield on my fairing, it's not clear or smoked, it's "solar". It just seems to have a slight tint to it, easy to see thru day or night.

Has anyone tinted their clear windshield or taken it to a shop to have it done? I have a shield and mounts lined up for a very nice price compared to a new one that is tinted and mounts. I am also considering having the stock chrome powder coated.

Heres the real deal what the other guy said about clear windshield they just disappear when you're looking at the bike and they're easy to see through smoke no way you're not getting a pair of sunglasses dude he had to windshield it protects you your face your eyes it's made out of polycarbonate and you need to see through it so don't put any more b******* on it that may keep you from seeing through it especially at night and the ones with the smoke at the bottom that just makes it where you can't see the s*** in the road what are you freaking crazy just get a clear one and by the way it should be about nose lips and nose height a little more when it's really cold out depending on where you live hello and all the Memphis Shades ones are made out of acrylic and they will shatter and kill you so go with poly carbonate otherwise known as lexan I don't get it Memphis Shades is supposed to be a real religious Corporation yet they sell acrylic windshields rather than polycarbonate seems if they really cared about people as Christians are supposed to they with use polycarbonate

Go with a flared windshield. Doesn't have to be tall but will direct the wind over your head. And yes, get the lowers. Helps keep hot and cold air off your chest.
