Warrior Relay Conversion ???? 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hey all, my 06 is all original (a virgin ) but she's Not turning over as easily as I know she should, so I am going to upgrade the wires to 4gauge and do a Warrior relay conversion. My only question is; Is there any modding that needs to be done to the Warrior relay or do you just reverse the 2 main cables when attaching them ?? Couldnt find a thread on anyone doing it

Thanks,
Rod

Not much reason to do that anymore. The Road Star relays are rated at 160 amps or so now. More than the starter would ever draw.

Still would like to do an Electrical Clinic at Celina one day.

Especially with current. So many people confuse where amps are used as supply number, verses used for a measurement of capacity.

The same amount of current (amps) flow through a relay rated at 200 amps as one rated at 800 amps
As long as your not pulling over 200 amps nothing changes. (Even then, the same amount of current will flow, but not for as long )

A 5 amp switch does not draw more amps than a 50 amp switch

You can't use too big of a battery and "give it too many amps",
just as a bigger relay/switch will not "give it more amps"
(Do you care if you plug your 120 volt/10 amp drill in to a 15 amp or 20 amp outlet? It draws what it draws either way.)

And my favorite from the Facebook page, you can't jump with a car because the electricity it provides is "different".

Volts, amps, frequency do not matter, somehow it is still "different".

That one about jumping from a car is my favorite also. I've heard it that the car battery is too strong for the bike. Obviously written by folks who don't know how batteries work.

The 1700 starter is rated at 900 watts which at 12 volts equals 75 amps. Most of our bikes crank at a voltage of between 10 and 11. I don't know if the starter is still drawing 900 watts at 10 volts but if it is that's 90 amps. Still within the range of the old 100 amp relay but just.
