Engine Serial number registry? 4 Years, 3 Months ago
Anyone know of an online engine serial number registry, or any other such resource? I'd like to find out more about the motor in my bike, as I don't think its the original motor. Also, would Yamaha be able to cross-index the numbers and determine whether or not the recall work has been done on the transmission?

Let me hunt it down.

I had an email address that I used to contact Yamaha. They were able to tell me when and where my bike was manufactured.

That was three years ago, but I'll check for you now.

Found it faster than I thought.

Cust.Service@yamaha-motor.co.uk

I asked for make/model of Yamaha engine number.

My email was dated April. I got a response in September.

This was the contact info at the bottom of their email to me. Might come in handy for you or someone else.

I'll give it a shot, even though I'm in the US.

Well, I'm in Thailand, and my bike is 13 years old.

I'm sure if they have access to my engine number info, they can access just about anyone's info. Hard to imagine anything otherwise.

The dealer would have quicker access into Yamaha's database with regard to the recall and if your motor/tranny are original to the bike. After purchasing my 2001R last year went to the dealer to have it serviced (oil change, inspection etc) they told me in a few hours that a recall existed and it had not been completed.

A quick call to the dealer them might give you those answers at least.

Agree with you regarding the recall. They have a database of that info at the dealers in the US -- at least they should.

I should have been more specific. The other info I provided was a reference to his question about engine history.
