saving info question 2 Months, 1 Week ago
Is there any easy way to save Technical articles?

I'd like the entire engine tear-down series for a start.

Is my only option to print everything, or is there a way to download articles?

I've got plenty of storage capacity and decent bandwidth - any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm really going to miss this place.

Copy and paste. DK if the photos will copy, depends on the original format. Isn’t there a deceased member who’s tech notes were preserved on another site by another member? TikesPlace, do you have that?

+1 on the copy & paste. Another option would be to PM Gram. Perhaps he can email the files or snail mail a disc.

I would gladly pay to have the entire tech section copied to a disc and mailed to me. I think whoever does it should be paid enough to justify their time and make a decent profit. I rarely do anything for free myself. Perhaps the carrot &
stick system would work. The money is the carrot and all the members crying, whining, and begging could be the stick. lol txulrich wrote:

I did a cut and paste into a word doc because I needed the 8x14 landscape to get them to fit. I only copied the ones I need consistently (or know I will need soon) so far. The multi-pagers are a pain. With all of the free Print to PDF apps available, you can go that route also. Im doing the Word because it will allow me to put comments / edits in myself.

I also would gladly pay for a disk of the entire Tech section.

Right now I am trying to find the "how to" for installing the road-wing. I can't find it in the tech articles.

I don't think it ever was a Tech Article. I have a bad case of CRS, but I think it was one of those on another website.

Great idea. I would gladly pay for a disc.

Printing the articles to a pdf file works really well and saves everything in the post. Click on the print icon in the upper right corner of the first page of the post. That will bring up a print window with the full post in it. Then press "CTRL+P" to print and change your printer to "Save as pdf" or something similar. If you don't have that option, installing a pdf program such as Foxit Reader may be necessary. That one is free and has always worked well for me. Alternatively, pressing "Save to Google Drive" in the print dialog saves it as a pdf as well. These instructions are for Windows, BTW.

I have already printed a lot of the articles to pdf and have thought about putting them all on a Google Drive share or something similar so that others could access them. Just not sure whether that would be an infringement on the rights of the Clinic. Saving all of them would be a day's work, but would be worth it. Forum threads are another matter, unfortunately.

How about copying all of the articles off and creating a DVD set. only has relevance to those of us who have Roadies' but a way to preserve the data.

That could be done, but Gram would have access to the files. It would be a whole bunch less time consuming to copy the files to disc vs. copy & paste to create new documents.
