Fuel pump help 1 Year ago
I went to start my 04 r* and no luck getting it to fire. I did not hear the pump cycle at all. I have fuel flowing into and out of the filter. I disconnected the fuel line on the outlet side of the pump and cranked it over and no flowed. I do basic mechanics so I could use a little guidance. Thanks.

I'm not a mechanic either, but I'm betting the fuel pump circuit runs through a circuit breaker. Check to see if you have a blown breaker.

I've gone pumpless thanks to Warden and Smokescreen at the Smoky's M&G last September. If your fuel pump is faulty, you can use mine....assuming an 01 will work on an 04 roadie. BTW, I'm in Auburn.

First - Check for voltage to the pump with a voltmeter. 12-14V dc
Second - Be sure fuel is flowing from petcock, disconnect fuel line to pump, open and close petcock.

If you have 12vdc and fuel flow from the petcock, run a single piece of fuel line from the petcock straight to the carb to bypass the pump. Then try to start it.
This assumes that your carb fuel bowl is letting in fuel past the float needle. If all is good, Fuel, Spark and compression - When you crank it, it should start.

I went pumpless 4 years ago and never had any issues since.

Run a piece of 5/16 id fuel line directly from the tank petcock, to the carb, and see if it starts. If it does, then you know its the pump, or something in the pump electrical circuit.

Fired up when the fuel line was hooked up from the petcock to the carb. Thanks all. Next I will check for juice to the pump. Special thanks to grigby who offered the use of a pump until I correct the issue.

Re:Fuel pump help 12 Months ago
So I tried grigby's fuel pump by using two jumpers as the connections don't match up. I did not get anything. I'm quickly getting worried that I may need to have someone look at the bike as I do my best but am limited mechanically. Before I wave the white flag does anyone have any advice for me regarding the situation. I'm not thinking pump less at this point but maybe down the road. Thanks as always to the forum members as well as a special thanks to grigby for his generosity.

Why not think pumpless? You have some need for unnecessary parts on your bike? Gravity doesn't break down. Not to mention the aesthetic value from not having that ugly thing hanging off your bike, and uncovering more surface area of the cylinder fins to aid cooling. It's a win-win-win.

Re:Fuel pump help 12 Months ago
Technically, you are pumpless right now. The number of people who have done no more then you, and never looked back, is a long one.

The biggest issue about only doing that is the 2.0 needle and seat in the carb now. It is engineered to be used with a pump. It has its limitations, when you are really demanding a lot of fuel. The 3.0 Grizzly valve, is an actual gravity flow needle and seat. It allows more then twice the amount of fuel to flow into the bowl(and faster by design), when the needle drops out of the seat. An aggressive rider, benefits from the 3.0. A less agressive rider could get by a long time(indefinitely maybe)with the stock needle and seat, until it starts leaking from age.
