This seems like a surprisingly good deal on a cool looking bike: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mcy/5569566229.html

Is the Harley market finally catching up with reality?

Wonder if these prices have anything to do with the miles. I would be afraid to purchase a harley with that high of miles... but thats just personal opinion.

That's not all that high in mileage. For that price, age and mileage it's a decent deal. I have seen bikes similar here in PA with higher mileage for around $8500 to $11000.

A lot of my Harley buddies have had to rebuild their motors between 40k and 60k miles... 27k is already halfway there, so from my experience it is high mileage. =) Not bashing, just what I've seen... then again, my buddies ride their bikes hard like I do to mine. So maybe more easily ridden bikes last longer. I'm in california, so those bikes that Doc has been posting are all about 1hr-2hrs away. Those are definitely good prices, we still have the WAAAAY overpriced bikes out here too. LOL

Here's a '99 Fatboy for $9k: http://visalia.craigslist.org/mcy/5554940706.html
Here's a '99 Roadking for $9500: http://modesto.craigslist.org/mcy/5500504448.html (lady is selling because her husband is a dick lol!!!)

Adamp brings up a very good point I probably should have made at the beginning... These prices may not be news to some of you, depending on what part of the country you're in. But this is in California, where any used Harley, other than a Sportster, has always *started* in the $8000-$9000 range and quickly gone up from there. A full dress was $10,000 plus. Frankly, It's a market correction that has been LONG over due.

I remember it was that way back in 93, when I bought my Sportster. The price of a used Harley has pretty much stayed the same ever since. [Until now]

We *used* to say, "nothing holds it's value like a Mercedes Benz or a Harley Davidson." They were the industry standards. Oh well... It's no longer the case for Mercedes either, hasn't been for some time...

I wouldn't be so sure of that Doc. I recently sold my '85 560SL Mercedes for $22.5K I p[aid 9 for it about 6 years ago and barely drove her unless it was a flawless day.

I also still drive my Mercedes GL450 on a daily basis and even after putting 12K miles on her in a year she is still worth well over what I paid for her.

I have always thought Harleys were overpriced Cache pieces. The market is still rather high here in Colorado for them, right in line with the prices you just listed.

The biggest difference is time...</span>

The biggest difference is, a Mercedes is a piece of insane engineering and a Harley is just a piece

That's not uncommon. I know a LOT of Harley riders who consider it normal to be looking at a rebuild in that range. They're also the guys who warn me that my Roadstar is getting close to 40k and I'll be tearing it apart soon since "most air cooled twins wear out around then".
I can't possibly roll my eyes loud enough.
