I re-read your original post,
Just making sure, but you did hook up main power directly to your battery

IMHO, this is what I would do.
Make sure the loudness control is off.
And back the bass level down.

Bass response is what sucks the most of the power. And is the hardest to hear. And to top if off, your playing your system in an open environment. Plus you are trying to over come engine and exhaust noise. So to hear the bass, it has to be really loud to hear and feel the bass. Therefore, you will be sucking a lot of power

Since you do not have subwoofers, your system is still trying to reproduce those frequencies.

Most speaker systems have some type of crossover, either 2 way or 3 way, depending upon the driver (speaker) compliment.
2 way speakers have a tweeter and woofer/midrange.
3 way speakers have a tweeter, midrange and woofer. Most speakers have a frequency range of 50hz to 20k hz.
I my opinion, anything under 100 hz is bass. And most speakers will reproduce down to 50hz, but then the woofer size will effect that too.
The bigger the woofer, the better bass response because you are moving more air. The lower the frequency, the more air you need to move. The more air that you need to move, requires more power.

Sound is nothing more than the movement of air, at different frequencies.
