Anyone into Clutch less shifting? 2 Years, 8 Months ago
Met a guy yesterday telling me how to bang through gears without a clutch. I tried it and like it. Even downshifted just to see if that worked. Will shifting without clutch ruin anything in the long run? Seems to shift good but have no experience as to the long term effects of that method of changing gears. Any knowledge or thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

It seems like a good idea in saving the clutch. Plus go through gears a tad quicker.

Speedshifting. Find if you can RPM match easily. Not something I would do real often through. Remember, this isnt a race bike.

Always did that when driving a truck but then those gearboxes had a neutral. What you're doing will wear the dogs down on the gears or possibly break one. In a truck going through neutral would allow the engine to slow the input shaft down to the speed of the next higher gear so it could be engaged smoothly. On the bike that isn't possible so without the clutch the gears get yanked into the same speed.

Shifting gears if done smoothly won't wear out a clutch.

It's pointless. It won't hurt anything, but it won't help anything either

Only if the arthritis in my clutch hand is acting up...okay, maybe once or twice when feeling lazy If done right, you don't get any banging or clanging...the '05 seems to speed shift fairly smoothly.

I've tried shifting without using the clutch, but don't like the "Clank" noise.

I have found that the clutch less shift 4-5th is not a problem at all for some reason.

Sure it will. Takes less time to shift

I do it whenever I'm trying to go fast. Preload the shifter with my toe, and just roll the throttle back about 1/4-1/2 a turn and back to WOT as fast as possible. Just gotta make sure you let off the shifter with your toe to let it reset before you want to do the next up shift.

I don't do it on downshifts at all. I use the clutch and rev match as best as I can while two fingering the front brake. Slipper clutches are in the same category as traction and wheelie control in my book. That category would be titled: Things that are cool but I can't afford

Possibly because 4th and 5th are both overdrive gearing?
