The first post I read about this incident, you admitted you were riding over your head. Why? What prompted that? When I read between the lines of your subsequent posts, I see a lot of guilt coming through. And now, this. Why? Fear can be overcome. We overcome it every time we get on and ride. Our loved ones get over it every time we return. There's something more hear, something that has not been mentioned.

Every time I read about these M&G's, it seems the main topic of conversation is how much alcohol consumption transpired. I hate to think that was what happened here. A man may be crippled for life, and for what? Artificially elevated testosterone levels? Perhaps it's not the wreck that won't let you sleep. Maybe it's the aftermath.

Of course this is all pure speculation. Far be it from me to accuse anyone of anything like this. From what I understand there were two separate incidents involving accidents at that M&G. But hey, people go down all the time for a million different reasons, right? Worst wreck I was ever involved in on a M/C was a drunk driver trying to kill me. That was in 1985 and I still remember the bitches name to this day. Second worst was a mechanical failure brought on by my own stupidity.

I don't really know what happened there. I wasn't there. I know what I read on these pages, and that there is as much information in what isn't said than there is in what is. And what isn't said speaks volumes. The fact that no one else on here has bothered to "go there" does not surprise me one bit. I wish all concerned a speedy and full recovery.

FPB,

Jason was the first to go down in the chain of events. It was a very challenging road. Let me assure you, there was no alcohol involved.... these are mountain roads, lots of twists, Chicanes, switchbacks and blind curves all with changing elevations involved. If you don't ride these roads on a regular basis, they can bite you in the ass quickly. If you look at the tree of shame in Dealers Gap, you see the evidence.

There maybe something "not said", but it had nothing to do with riding while impaired. We rode together all day before the accident. It is very common to feel responsible for someone else's misfortune..... But Jason did nothing wrong accept *maybe* not be prepared for a very challenging stretch of road.

You're correct, bikers go down all the time.....most of the time it's minor. I've done it through my own stupidity - poor judgment/operator error on my part.

I would appreciate it if you could refrain from psycho-analysis.

No alcohol was comsumed on my part po. I refuse to drive impaired be it alcohol or perscription pills that maybe perscribed to me at the time. I also dont believe anyone else in the group had been drinking that morning. Like i said i simply was riding harder than my skillset would allow on roads im not familiar with. I lost sight of the front 4 or 5 people of the group and was trying to just get them back in sight so i could see where we were going because i didn't know where we were even riding to. I remember people staging up and then just taking off. I feel a bit guilty that jake and joe went down behind me, this is true but at the same time we all know that all of us were doing multiple things wrong and it bit us in the ass like greg said. All three of us know that if we had a bigger gap or just slowed down and said to hell with it things would likely have came out different. I worry about jake and joe because they are friends, i dont feel that is a bad thing.

Did the same thing up in Leeds Alabama by Barbers Museum. We were headed to 29 Dreams campground, had just got in the area, near dark and got behind the group. Trying to catch up, came into a turn too quick and had to decide whether to hit the road or the ditch. Chose the ditch, broken leg, messed up the bike. Got to the campground, patched the bike up(didn't know the leg was broken until I got home. Did go to Barbers the next day, lots of duct tape wrapped around the boot. Everyone goes down, the choice to ride is totally yours. Heal up and give it some time. Sonny

Jason, It is your choice to put the motorcycle riding on the back burner and no one else's. I traded my Honda twin 450 way back in the mid seventies after laying it down for the 3rd time to get away from 4-wheelers. I Traded it for a pop-up tent camper. Then I got the bug again in 2008. Of course my kids have long ago left the nest and the wife is long gone also No reference to wives intended, lots of guys got good ones.

quitter...

Thats a tough spot man. Family comes first though. Give it a couple years, let the kids get older, the finances will settle and you can get back in the saddle.

Hate to hear that Jason. I believe that family come first though. I'm sure she's a little unsettled after the incident. Maybe after some time there will be a change of heart. Wish you the best in whatever you decide.

That sucks man for someone to give up riding. Got to be one of the toughest decisions someone has to make. Sorry to hear that but family does come first! Good luck with all the future with you and yours.

In an attempt to be the "glass half full" kind of guy (which goes against my generally cynical worldview), I'm going to take solace in the fact your thread title is

"MIGHT" be done riding.

There's power in words - so I like to think you'll be back in one way or another. The question is "when"?

That said - Jason, you do what you need to do and disregard any of the chirping in the peanut gallery except for those of us (like Jen and I) who think you and Julie are good people and deserve the best.

Thank you for plenty of good advice and inspiration over the years.

You may change your mind, you may not - whatever you do is right for you - but you'll always have our respect (and, obviously from the posts here the respect of many others.)

Good luck, and if you do decide to pack it in for a while, don't be a stranger.

George
