Jason, it takes a noble man to make the "right" decision. I will always consider you a friend and hope to see you next riding season. Take care of the family, you'll be back on 2 wheels when the time is right.

tough call but I admire anyone that can face up to reality and step away.
My day is coming. Not going to keep riding and be a danger to myself and others.
Good luck.

I don't have the knowledge to contribute much to a forum like this so I've tried to give parts away or reply with pics when asked or whatever I can when I can. I have my bike the way I want it because guys like you are so willing to spend time sharing their knowledge. I've never met any members here but your contributions make this not just a great resource but what seems like a great group of people.

I hope you find happiness in whatever you do and thank you for all you shared here that helped me.

I fully understand how you feel, Jason, as you well know, this is a great support group, as well as a great motorcycle forum. You don't need a bike to be friends here...

Re:Might be done riding..... 1 Year, 4 Months ago
A lot of us old guys rode when we were young, quit for several years, then started riding again. In my case I quit when I was about 23 because I drank, did stupid things on my bike and didn't consider riding any fun under 100mph. I had a few encounters with the pavement and decided my luck had run out. Years later, daughter raised, educated and married. I had some money in the bank and no more drinking so I started riding again. I don't have to go fast to get a thrill because when you get old just waking up in the morning is thrill enough. As you get older you find out there are things you want to do and things you have to do and they don't always overlap.

You have to do what is right for the 2 of you. That said, don't make the decision today. Another long winter is nearly upon us and there will be time for both of you to think it through. Since I told her what happened down there my wife has been trying to talk me out of going to Eureka Springs. Only you can decide the roght decision for your family, but whatever you do know that this is a better place because of your input

Settle with the insurance company, turn out the lights in the garage, close the door and re visit how you feel a year from now.

A long time ago I flew over the back of a pickup that turned left in front of when I was doing 50mph. When i got out of the hospital I swore I would never touch another bike as long as I live.

Since then Ive been thru about 25 motorcycles and ATVs (almost all of them were used late model dirt bikes)and we raised two daughters in the process who are grown, out on their own and successful in life.

I did kind of lose interest and fiddle with sailboats for a dozen years or so in the process but that was my own choice.

Walk away from it, dont sell your add ons and see how you feel later on. Dont worry you will still have people standing in line to buy some of that tricked out stuff from your bike if you choose to go that route in the future.

Time is your friend.

My .02 worth...

If you can't sleep and the wife isn't happy, it seems simple enough.

We know you could put something together cheap if you really wanted to get out again, but there is more to it than that.

Get on the boat, hit the parks, etc. It's easier than you think to find other options that includes the whole family.

Jump back in to it when you have more money and less responsibilities.

In the mean time, you have to stick around the forum.
