I junked my tank many years ago. Moved key switch to side cover.
Got HD choke cable and installed it on left side for seat release. Since it says choke on it no one yet has figured out you pull it to open the seat!
For some reason no one clicks to the fact its on the left and no where near the carb....and that there is a plain choke knob on the right by the carb. Its hilarious to pull it in front of people and they go "what the.....?"

So, I'm leaning to a "generic" ignition, and rerouting the seat release and a non-locking gas cap. I'm hopeful I can find a generic switch that I can drop into the existing space that will fit acceptably well, or that I can find some trim, or a bezel to finish the "appearance".

Regarding a switch...I'm assuming it has to be 4-wire, also do I need to be concerned about amp rating?

again...thanks all!!!

I recommend getting rid of the ignition switch and housing and replacing with a 30amp+ toggle.

Whoa! Are you going battery cable to switch to starter with that 30 amp toggle? If so, eliminate the solenoid... hmmmm, what an idea!

A 30amp toggle isn't enough to eliminate the starter relay. Along with the fact that some other thing are run from the relay, like everything in the electrical system.
