Does the bike need to be in gear to remove the bolts from the clutch? Great video and looks real simple to do.

It shouldn't need to be but it also wouldn't hurt to have it in gear just to insure the basket won't spin so I guess it is your choice.

Thanks Davej and pangea33. That is what i wondered about it spinning. Have most changed clutch plates while in there with new stock or just checked thickness?

I only checked the plates when I did the conversion last spring at 30k miles. Looked great.

Had the bike in for the recall work last fall at 50k. Had them upgrade the oil pump gear and check the plates while they were in there. I didn't get the specific measurements from the mechanic. He simply said the plates look great and should last me many years.

I TRUST these specific mechanics too. So much so that I said "if the plates need replaced once you're in there, I'm fine with it." I think are honestly the only mechanics I know well enough to say that too.

Sure like the Barnett I put in last summer. Smooth, accurate shifts and I found the lever easier to pull oddly. Very happy.

I have a kit sitting on my work bench right now. I think I'll out it in this week while I'm waiting for my ported manifold from Curt.

The Barnett kit was some of the best money I ever spent on this bike. Just install it and forget it is even there.

My clutch is slipping bad. I need to replace the clutch and do the upgrade. She's only got 18k on her but I do nail the gears everywhere.

More or less typical, if you ride them hard.

Me too Did my conversion at around 16k miles or so last year just in anticipation of a known problem when it's ridden the way I like to

Also from SE MI. Introduce yourself in a new thread. I'm assuming you have/had another bike based on your screen name. Tell us a bit about yourself. Not a whole lot of actual kneedraggers around here (but there are a few of us )

I've been a knuckle dragger for a long time! Knees, not so much, but a couple times.
