I'm in the market this spring to replace my old Icon full face helmet. I like the modular designs. I'm not looking to spend $600 but I also will not be settling for a sub $200 helmet either. What do you guys have and like?

What I like is the Shoei Neotec modular. What I have is a Bilt Evolution modular. If I had the money I would get the Shoei...

Well I am relegated to pretty much HJC helmets due to sizing. I'm incredibly intelligent and have a very full, large cranial cavity so I need a big helmet. I also wear hearing aids (and have since age 5 or so) so Bell, Shoei and Aria helmets don't fit over my ears. Right now I have the HJC CL Max II which goes up to size 5X it is a sub $200 helmet though. I would like to try out their fancy modular the RPHA-Max that is supposedly quieter, cooler as well as lighter. If you have less intelligence than me meaning 2X or smaller helmet size I would take a look at them. Have worn their helmets for many years off-road and have been very pleased with the durability, fit and features, and at a mid-line price point.

I have the Nolan N43 Trilogy, which has morphed into the N44. You won’t find a larger forward opening anywhere else in a street helmet in the 300 dollar range. I like the quality of the Nolan (Italian made) better than Any helmet from Asia at a competitive price.

I went for the SHARK EVO Series 3. It was about $400 but it is the ONLY one you can ride 3/4 or full face. Simple one handed conversion, even while moving (SHARK does not recommend conversion on the move, bit I do it all the time.) It is also DOT certified in both configurations. Also comes with built in "sun Visor." Some color / pattern combos cost more than others.

The SHARK EVO has a different "standard head shape" which I found much more comfortable. The one thing I didn't like was that the helmet was designed for their specific Blu-Tooth unit, and it is not U.S. made. I like to support U.S. when possible, but this helmet was just too good to pass up.

There was a review of it on RevZilla. I ordered mine through Amazon and saved about $75 over others at the time.

I have the LS2 half and modular helmets that I wear. But I have a Shoei Neotec modular also.
The Shoei is a great helmet but both my LS2's match, so that's what I wear.

There are lots of good modular helmets on the market these days. When I chose my helmet I learned quite a bit about the different ratings. Most common here in the states is DOT rating, however the European SNELL rating is actually more stringent and therefore a SNELL rated helmet is going to offer more protection than a DOT rated helmet. A really good site to compare various helmets is https://sharp.dft.gov.uk/

Just plug in the helmet your considering and it will give you a detailed breakdown of how it rated. Or you can just plug in the kind of helmet you're looking for and the number of stars you want and it will give you a list to choose from including cost.

It ultimately helped me find a good 5 star helmet that offered lots of protection in my price range.

P.S. What we call modular helmets they refer to as "System" helmets.

I to am own Nolan, N44 love took a while to break in if between sizes go with the size smaller as when its broken in will fit better. I too like the quality and the comfort plenty of ventilation the only con is the big face shield does get warmer on the face than other helmets but overall is a good helmet 400 dollars at cycle gear and yes i would buy it again
