How Good is the PIRELLI MT66 Cruiser Tire? 11 Years, 4 Months ago
Hey Everyone I just hit the 12,000 mile mark on my stock slipstone tire after 7 months (yes I do ride alot) and the middle is squared off and quit bald 75% two up riding so I guess I got some good milage out of it. Anyways I did what research I could and wound up ordering the Pirelli MT66. Has anyone else used this tire or have any info on it? Yes I know how good the Metz 880s are as I run them on our V-Star. Only problem is that alot of them are made in Brazil now and Germany. Been getting some mixed reviews from the ones out of Brazil so I figuered I would try something differnt. Any Info on the Pirelli would be appreciated. Thanks and God Bless Mike

mt66´s are nice tyres.

they stick well in the dry and wet (ground the rear subframe on the deck a couple of times being a bit overenthusiastic), and last more or less the same as most other cruiser tyres. i did find that they got a bit `sensitive´ at the last 3mm of tread.

having said that, i´m well impressed with the me880´s. just gotta find out what they wear like.

bought my 2004 roadstar used w/mt66 tires on it.Got 15,000 miles out of the rear and 32,000 on the front.Nice tires I would buy them ,but now am runing metzlers.I have 54,000+ miles on the bike and my last rear tires were dunlops.I got 17,000 on one,15,000 on another and 4,000+ on a soft compound tire the stealer had mounted by mistake.

Me too.

My rear tire has 10,000 kilometres and I need to replace it. Front tire should get double that easily.

My buddy rides the MT66. Rides a lot of 2-up and he seems to get good mileage from the tires.

Can't comment on the ride as it's been a while since I rode his but I don't remember anything 'unusual'.

I ran the MT-66's on my Shadow 750, and got around 10,000 miles out of them each set (3 of them). I rode it pretty hard all of the time. I am probably gonna put one on the Road Star after the 404 that's on it wears out. The Shadow came with 404's and I really don't like them in the last 1/3 of thier life cycle. Anyway, If you are looking to get away from a tire made in Brazil, The MT-66 may not help. It depends on size, but most of the Pirelli non-radials are produced in Brazil. Even though they own Metzeler, They only use the German and Japanese plants for Radials and high volume production. It does not seem to hurt things though, as all of my Pirelli tires have been very high quality. They may not yield the same mileage for each rider. I don't expect to get any more than 8000 out of them on the Star, but I likes me throttle, me engine braking, and me twins. Between the Road Star and my SV-650, I spend more on bike tires than I do on tires, oil, filters and everything on thecar and truck. I run about 16000 miles a year between 2 bikes.

I have a question on how you guys are riding to get such low mileage from your tires? My R* still has the original tires with 5 mm of thread still available. It is 3 months old and I am logging the 15000th mile today. Yes I ride more than 200 miles a day, 5 or 6 days a week no matter what the weather.

i generally get 10,000 out of a set of tyres, but i´ll admit that i give the bike it´s head as soon as it´s warm which doesn´t make for low rear tyre wear.

also having put R1 calipers, A.P.racing pads, and braided lines, the front wears out quicker than before, but what price for good braking?

I guess this rider just doesn't gun the bike nor slam the brakes anymore like he did in his younger days I just checked the pads and they are still over half there. It could also be that I do about 90% highway and just 10% city
