Roaming and riding the open road on an overpowered torque monster can bring out the best and worst behavior out of a man. With me, boredom sets in and one may be inclined to pass or just open the bike up just because. That being said, the bike may gitty up and go but inevitability innocently past the posted speed limit.

Ever since I got been riding for the last 4 years, I can not remember one single ride where I have not passed a vehicle. Thus at one point or another in a ride, I go over the posted speed limit. The bike is my best and worst form of transportation in that it is a blast torquing past slow-moving cagers, but the worst for easily passing the posted speed limit.

So, I decided to do some research on radar and laser detectors. The end result of the information compiled is, do not speed. The technology is expensive and may not even work.

Asking a biker not to speed is like asking him to have only one beer at a party or wedding reception. Chances of that happening may be slim to none with certain personality types. At present, I rarely drink, but usually, have at least 2 beers when socializing.

After giving the topic a lot of thought, the real solution is.. do not speed. That being said, it may be easier to downsize to a 250cc bike than to keep a Road Star pegged below the posted speed limit and not pass anything.

I sometimes think, maybe sell the bikes as I am like the naughty kid that eats all the chips in the bowl then regrets it afterward. Part of the freedom of riding for me is breaking away from a pack of cagers and having my own space on the road in my own bubble.

I have not been caught breaking the law, but find it hard to keep to the posted limit on the highway. How do biker police officers cope when riding? They can't be breaking the law they enforce.

My bike wants to eat up the road and has a big appetite. But have no appetite for a speeding ticket as dessert.

When I drive my van, as weird as this sounds, I hate driving it fast. When on the bike, everything seems painfully slow. Arrgggg....... Maybe I should sell the bikes or force myself to wrap my brain around a normal cruising speed, or get a 250cc bike.

I do not think radar detectors are the answer, what say you? maybe I need a biker shrink to reset my brain.

I say ditch the laser detectors, get on our bikes and grab a big handful of chips, and hope the motorcycle cop thinks of his bike as you think of your van.

We had a 250 Ninja for awhile. It won't help. But you've been sooo lucky so far. Just keep riding that wave of good luck. It'll most likely end at some point, then you take the number of miles it took you to get it, and divide it by the number of times you got to get away with it. That is the cost of your fun factor. Keep that number below the value of the bike x 2 and divided by the hypotenuse of a billy goat with 3 balls on a chilly Fall morning, 7:17am E.S.T. That is your Rotating Scrotum Factor ( Very Important). This is just the beginning, but by now I think you see where to go next with this. Just try not to fall down in the process...that brings all kinds of different formulas and quadratic equations and shit that'll make your brain scream for relief! Now, just get on your bike and find a nice entrance ramp onto a nice uncluttered highway, and make yourself smile.

I pick my spots to go WFO.....never on an Interstate (I dont ride them much). I save it up and let it out when appropriate.......too many tickets in my youth taught me to be smart about it!

Taking the wisdom of the Rotating Scrotum Factor into account, I must discard the flawed science of the radar detector. It requires a 12 volt source as the RSF appears to use quantum physics taking into account the hypotenuse of a billy goat. Pobasturd has greater insight pertaining to this than most, and I understand the concept due to the eloquent in depth explanation.

I use a leap frog shark attack style of riding. I sneak up on the unsuspecting cager, then pounce past him causing shock and awe. By the time he figures it out, I have wandered up the road for the next bit of adventure. The leapfrog part of it is the bike leaps past like a frog that ...leaps.

Taking into account Pobasturd's explanation ensures my avoidance of any technology interfering with my passing unsuspecting cagers and truckers.

When I see the post-pubescent sports bike riders passing me on their rear wheel, I admire their skills but question the sanity of ripping down miles of highway disregarding the Rotating Scrotum Factor.

I do not blatantly rip down the highway for thrills, but use the bump and grind technique. Using the bike's torque to accommodate a responsible means of expressing the wild side of my personality, brings to question, where and when. Hopefully the when is where I should be, not where I should not.

I got more tickets with a radar detector. in this area tickets are a joke. I give them to my attorney and she gets it dropped to a non-moving violation. Last ticket I got was for not having my vehicle under control. Attorney got it dropped to a loud muffler lol

I think you hit it on the head. They give you a feeling of safety, but they don't really work on most modern radar / Lidar systems (they turn on and off too quick.)

I keep an eye out for "panic brake lights" far ahead of me to indicate cops.

I remember having to go pick up a radar gun for a boat race.

I had so much fun driving back, aiming that thing in front of me, pulling the trigger, and watching all the brake lights come on

Decades ago I moved from California, where radar was ILLEGAL on the freeways (it's since changed), to Wyoming, where radar funded the state budget. I was stopped at least three times in six months, ticketed once among the three.

So I bought the finest detector available at the time back then, a Bell something-or-other, and though it saved me some tickets what it really did was show me how vulnerable I really was and forced me to slow down. Too often the LEO wouldn't even hit his radar button until he was only dozens of yards away from me as he approached from the other direction, making it impossible to slow down in time.

I say keep your eyes open and save your money.

I've had a Valentine One in my vehicles since they first came out...saved my a$$ many times. Of course you always need to be vigilant but the V1 flat out works.
