The only thing that irritates me about this new Venture of mine is that I now have 3 count 'em 3 oil drains and 2 oil fill spots that all must be used to change the oil.

They didn't make oil changes any easier that's for sure.

That was a design decision of 'ease of draining' vs. 'volume of draining' from what I've been told.
If there were only 1 or 2 drains in a case casting of that size, several key structural bosses would need to be smaller or removed.

That particular engine has always had 3 drain plugs. The second fill plug looks kind of handy. Probably a suggestion from customers who thought adding some to the tank, starting the engine for a moment, then adding the rest was somehow hard on the engine.

This oil thing is kinda funny to me. Back in High School in the automotive department, we had a teacher who would show students every year how fast a crankshaft is actually turning buy removing the oil pan from an engine in a test stand and running it with no pan or oil at all. Granted it was only for a minute or so, but this engine would do this every year before I got to that school and after I graduated. and it ran perfectly. Unfortunately, I can't remember what kind of V8 engine it was except it was American made.
